Top-rated things to do in Manchester

Unique activities hosted by local experts vetted for quality

  • Naze View Farm Alpaca Experience
You will arrive at the farm - which has wonderful views over the Peak District Hills and Combes Reservoir. We will make sure you are refreshed and give you a short talk on the Alpacas; * how to keep you and your Alpaca safe during the walk * how to put your Alpaca at ease and gain the most from your experience. * the care and husbandry tasks that we provide for our alpacas Whilst we are talking to you, we will match you to the Alpaca which would suit you best. We will then collect "the boys" and go for a walk around our farm - this will be through wooded areas and fields and we will stop along the way to allow you time to pet the Alpacas and get to know them. PLEASE ENSURE YOU WEAR SUITABLE FOOTWEAR. We will stop during the walk for cuddles and photo opportunities. You will be able to feel some of their fleece and if you wish you can collect some alpaca poop if you wish to make some "fertiliser tea" once you return home to help your garden grow! Once the walk has finished, we will have opportunity for more photos and the opportunity to ask questions. You will leave the experience with increased knowledge about these wonderful animals and benefit from some time in their company. There are three alpacas, each visitor will have one alpaca each, if you have a group of more than 3 people, please get in touch. Other things to note Alpacas are friendly animals who have a natural curiosity. They are nervous creatures and can be startled easily so we try and minimise loud noises and quick movement, please ensure long hair is tied back. The alpacas do not like to be drowned in rain - so the experience can be weather dependent.

  • Make a Manchester Bee Mosaic
We'll meet outside the entrance hall at Manchester Art Gallery. The art gallery is the perfect meeting spot where we’ll spot a few bees in the gallery. I'll explain the significance of the Manchester bee, Industrial Revolution and Cottonoplois. We'll also look at the gorgeous William De Morgan Victorian tiles and Pre-Raphaelite Art. Then we will walk to the Waterhouse Pub to pay homage to the architect Alfred Waterhouse (1830 ~1905) who designed the gothic style masterpiece that is Manchester Town Hall and the incredible bee mosaic floor. Walking around the outside of the Town Hall, as it is being refurbished until 2024, we will walk through Library Walk. Here we can see the cotton flower mosaic floor and spot some more worker bees. Onto "Foundation Coffee House” Whitworth Street, where the workshop will take place for you to make your bee mosaic. All the materials will be provided for you to make your bee. I'll guide you through the mosaic process and technique, sharing my skills and tips on how to make the best bee mosaic. I'm really excited about welcoming you to Manchester, you're going to have the best time. It will be an experience that is unique and I know you'll love. Other things to note No previous experience is needed. This will be an excellent way of meeting new people if you are travelling alone. I'm looking forward to meeting you.
