The castle was built in 1811 and is surrounded by 500 acres of parkland and the 1000 acre lough. The estate and countryside contain evidence of a history dating back to Tuatha Da Danaans, ca. 900 AD.

Privately owned castle. Available for functions. Events such as the castle race series takes place yearly. At the opposite side of the lake from the castle is a public area from leisure swimming and kayaking. This amenity can be accessed from the Ballyturn townland area.
