Why locals recommend it
When the weather is nice, you can barely see the grass due to the throngs of people lounging around. Luckily, the park was recently renovated and is big enough that you're bound to find a spot you like. The southwest corner is good for a panoramic view of the city skyline (and usually far enough away from the folks enjoying their herbal refreshments on the northern slope). There's also a nice kid's playground, although it's geared more towards older kids.
Tips from locals
If you head this way do visit Valencia street which is vibrant and has unique shops and food. Tartine Bakery is nearby and is popular for its great pastries.
Dolores Park is the most popular park in the city because of its amazing views and overall atmosphere. Everyone comes here to have picnics, hang out with friends, or even just read a book. I highly recommend grabbing a burrito from LA TAQUERIA (1 mile distance) and have a picnic at Dolores Park!
I listed it under sightseeing and not parks because it really is something to see. On a sunny day it’s literally full with fun young people.
