Why locals recommend it

They say Tadich is one of the oldest continuously operated spots in town. They’re a mainstay for seafood; you must get the sand dabs. I have deep history here. My dad was here when I was born, at the bar drinking. He called the hospital and found out my mother gave birth. He bought cigars for everyone before he went home. It’s a long narrow space, with the bar running pretty much all the way down. You usually have to fight just to get a seat at the bar and you never know who you’re going to run into. It’s a cross between tourists, old school San Francisco, and people working in the Financial District.

This is old-time San Francisco, and also the oldest restaurant in town, around since the Gold Rush. Go for crab, clam chowder and sourdough. It's not cheap, but it's authentic.
