The Knocknadobar or Cnoc na dTobar ancient pagan trail is a moderate 3.5 hour (8 km) walking route to the 690m peak near the town of Cahersiveen, Co. Kerry. This hiking trail is well marked out and follows the 'stations of the cross' pilgrim route with stunning views of The Skellig Islands, Valentia Island, Dolus Head and more from the top. The route starts from and returns to a well signposted car park at the foot of the mountain. The trail is suitable for people of all ages due to the zig zag route. Consult the weather forecast prior to hiking and avoid if fog or cloud is present on the mountain.

This is a great climb, a long walk but not too steep and the views at the top are spectacular! The ground can be a little rough in areas so be sure to bring suitable footwear, stick to the path which is easy to follow as it is an old Pilgrim's path following the stations of the cross, You can see the valley of Cahersiveen, the Fertha River, the Atlantic Ocean and all the surrounding rugged landscape for miles from the top of the mountain!

Cnoc na dTobar is 4.5km from Cahersiveen and is now one of the Pilgrim Paths of Ireland. There is a car park at the start of the trail. It is a tough but rewarding hike from sea level to 690m marked by the Stations of the Cross and Canon's Cross at the summit. You will need proper walking boots and attire and you'll need to bring water and snacks.

For those who love hill walking, on a fine day, pack a lunch and put on your boots for this historic and prayerful walking challenge - 14 stations of the cross rising up the side of a mountain a couple of miles outside Cahersiveen. The views alone are worth it. The sheep are friendly. On the way there look out carefully for the well hidden and nearby holy well with reputed healing powers.
