Tips from locals
Silves is an historic town on the way up to the hills of Monchique and sits along a meandering river. Known best for its castle atop the town of narrow, cobbled streets with a plethora of great local restaurants to enjoy lunch and people-watch
A very impressive castle. One of the best preserved Moorish fortifications in Portugal.
WA well stocked museum that has permanent exhibitions as well as visiting exhibitions
Silves is a small town which is lovely to wander around but has the added advantage of the old castle to look around. For a relatively small fee (just under 4 euro - Oct 2016) you can get entrance to the castle, entrance to the Museum of Archaeology and also a small taste of the local wine. Great value
