Hike to Portofino! Leave your car in Santa Margherita. Take a train to Camogli and from the station walt to San Rocco. Follow the signs for Potofino and you'll enjoy a spectacular path between the sea and the mountains. Once you get to Portofino, walk back to Santa Margherita. You may want to leave early and calculate 8hrs for the entire experience.

for a trip out of town and a different day, I recommend the Tigullio Gulf. You can get there by car or train (you can make the tickets by the Trainline App), from La Spezia Centrale railway station (just 10 minutes walk from Grandmas House) to Santa Margherita Ligure station. When you get there, just follow the road to Portofino, which is flanked by a splendid pedestrian promenade, overlooking the sea. The way runs along some of the most beautiful places in Liguria, such as the bay of Paraggi. There is no need to describe the village of Portofino, which is famous all over the world for its exclusive port and the typical Ligurian houses overlooking the bay ! Obviuosly, take an aperitif, but don't spend too much!!

Famous for its picturesque harbour and historical association with celebrity and artistic visitors, Portofino is definitely one of the places you cannot miss during you stay in the Italian Riviera.
