There are a number of trails in this area. If you're up for it, there a steps known as the cardiac steps which are worth the climb for the views over the lakes. (need to be relatively fit)

For a small island off the beaten track, it offers so much to do and see it is a must visit. Get the ferry across from Renard point. Visit Gleanleam beach and gardens, the lighthouse, dinosaur footprints, Geokaun Mountain and bray tower.

This Skellig Ring is a small detour off the Ring of Kerry. It is less well known as the roads are too narrow for buses to travel but it is worth the drive. Firstly, take the ferry from Renard point in Cahersiveen, this brings you to Valentia Island (www.valentiaisland.ie) I have highlighted points of interest in Valentia below. The route then takes you into the fishing village of Portmagee. From there you travel up over the mountain Coomanaspig passing spectacular cliffs (www.kerrycliffs.com), if you have time there are some fabulous views from there. The road then travels into St. Finians bay a rural village with a beach that is re-knowned for surfing. Here you will also find a chocolate factory with a nice cafe where you can treat yourself to some very tasty confectionery. Leaving here the road brings you into Ballinskelligs bay, there are two beaches here that stretch out for miles, great time to take a break from the driving and take a stroll along one of them and enjoy the sea breeze. The route then takes you back to Waterville and the Ring of Kerry Route.

This is another great driving route. It takes you around the Dingle peninsula and has spectacular ocean views and passes through many small villages that embodies what rural living in Ireland. There are plenty places to stop to enjoy the day. The route is full of amazing views, around every turn there is a different angle to appreciate the scenery. Make sure to stop at the beehive huts and the Blasket Centre. Top Gear were filming here recently and Matt Le Blanc described it as paradise with 'great scenery, great roads and great people'. I would advise to travel in a clockwise direction as the roads are narrow and it is easier and safer to go with the flow of traffic.

UNESCO SITE. Famous Islands off the coast of South West Kerry. Only accessible by boat, early booking is essential. Star wars was filmed here in 2016 and has only added to its attraction. http://skelligislands.com/ If it is not possible for you to visit the island, I would strongly recommend visiting the Skellig Experience Centre on Valentia Island for the next best thing.
