A bit more upscale than an actual diner but they have diner food - burgers, club sandwiches, milkshakes, pie! Open late. Has a crowded weekend brunch scene but if you're 1 or 2, try the counter.

My favorite restaurant. Small menu, Ramen and chashu buns, but everything is delicious. They have one vegetarian option ramen but this is better for meat eaters.

Another ramen restaurant. Some people like this one more than Sakuramen, it's up for debate. Taan is newer, a bit more posh, and has more vegetarian-friendly options.

A very small, always crowded family-run Italian restaurant. They're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays I think. The food is good if you want pasta but - in my opinion - a little overrated/overpriced.

A 10-15 minute walk from my apt -- very small, they take coffee VERY seriously, and it's delicious. They have wi-fi but only like 10 seats. If you're lucky enough to get a table, it's worth it.

A bit of a walk, over the bridge, but this place has excellent food for brunch/lunch. Lots of tables, inside and out, but can be very crowded on weekend. Same owners as Tryst.

My favorite pizza in DC. A little pricey and have had long waits. Sports bar restaurant vibe, so I usually pick up and bring home. Sadly they do not deliver.

Shopping

If you need to go to Target, this one is a 10-15 minute walk. This whole area is a busy shopping / eating area. It's also where you go to get to the Columbia Heights metro station (yellow/green lines)
