Fóia is the highest point of the Algarve, with an incredible view over the South Coast but also over the West Coast. The mountains of Monchique are also a great hiking destination, with lots of great trails. And the town of Monchique is well worth a stop to enjoy the local food.

Lose yourself in the narrow streets of the medieval centre, visit the ancient castle, and enjoy a meal or drinks at one of the cafés overlooking the scenery. In August, the traditional medieval fair is one of the best in Portugal, set in the perfect location.

Alte, a traditional village with fountains from the Roman time, is a pleasurable place to visit anytime: during the cooler season, you can enjoy some nearby hiking paths, and on a warm day, you can refresh yourself in the fountains and enjoy a picnic.
