Mount Shannon has so much for such a small village, there are boat trips to holy Island and you can find out more about the sea eagles nest there from time to time and see close up the famous round tower, ancient graves and church.

Would park is a collection of five small area of wood land. One of the walks is the local fairy Trail if you had children or such fun even if you’re a grown-up. And the others areas you need to hunt out the different twists and turns to enjoy the most fabulous half an hour you could ever choose to walk.

This has to be one of the most beautiful walks and places to sightsee in the area. I Always advise everyone to park at the golf club and enter through the half gate rather than go the main road in car park. Doing this you will start off on one of the choir trails and if you can keep staying right and close to the golf course then you’ll go through into the ‘Pine Glade’ part of the forest which is magnificent an SO quiet. Follow the trail and after a small stretch of road track turn in again to what I call the ‘hobbit wood’ and hunt out the ancient Birch Trees. Honestly the never Stops. Then the Castle and is Cafe (in season) is a must, fantastic history and incredible renovations.

Portumna Forest Park
6 St Joseph's RdThis has to be one of the most beautiful walks and places to sightsee in the area. If your wanting a drive in the day, you can go left out of the house and head for a drive round the east side taking in Terryglass and it’s fab restaurants or go a bit further to Garry Kennedy, very famous pubs and eatery’s and then you might as well do the full lough and go though Killaloe around to Scarriff and back via mount Shannon!!! Now that’s a big fabulous day out ❤️

Now that’s a big fabulous day out ❤️

A most stunning village with lots to see and some fab places to eat, the snug for pizzas and tapas and salads and the Cois for a solid family menu and a great bar. Also some cafes and the maze and harbour to top it all.

I added white gate on the food scene because it has the half barrel public house, it’s a local we all go to because the food is mighty not to expensive and the welcome is hearty!

If you’re in Portumna seeing the castle or walking through the forest this would be the place I would advise you to go. You will be mesmerised by the pub and restaurant and the welcome from Theresa and her staff is massive.

I put the cornerstone up on here it’s not really an eatery, although they do some great heated pizzas but it’s more that it’s a pub close to the house, it’s cozy with a fabulous log fire. Quiet places to sit if you want and a big sports screen if there’s any matches on, also very friendly locals.

Ryan’s bar is legendary in the village of Scariff, which is about a 20 minute drive. Taxes can be organised there if you like & It has the best cocktail menu in Co Clare!!! at seriously good prices and above is a Chinese restaurant where you can grab a great takeaway after enjoying your cocktails.
