About 15-20mins driving distance from us this “Gourmet on wheels” won’t disappoint! Their signature tapa style dishes like: papas bravas (spicy chunky potatoes with beef tongue), torta de pato (duck sandwich) are SO GOOD! It’s located inside Adobe Guadalupe’s winery nestled between trees and bronze sculptures of flying horses. This place fits all my categories: food, winery, sightseeing. While I honestly come for the food. The wines match perfectly with the food. You get wine, outdoor art, amazing food and you don’t even have to dress up, the causal setting of picnic tables makes you feel like your at a family reunion. *this place has become extremely popular- reservations are recommended on weekends* (Did I mention they have some of the most beautiful breeds of horses here?) you’ll need to contact the winery directly to ride a horse or tour the stables.

Traveler advice

Ways to save

Pay in Pesos (local currency)

Yes most places will gladly take your dollars, but the exchange rate won’t be the best. You can pull out money from an ATM or visit a “Casa de Cambio”- the closest one is in El Sauzal. Nearest ATM is at Pharmacia Roma in Francisco Zarco or Calimax in El Sauzal. Gas stations (only 2): San Antionio de las Minas takes cash and card, Francisco Zarco only takes cash.
Book before you go

Deckman’s and high-end restaurants RSVP

It’s a small town, but many come from afar just to eat at some of these famous restaurants. If your planning to eat at Fauna, Bruma, Laja, Deckmans or Javier Plasencias’ places, book an advance.
What to pack

Comfy shoes

Many out of town folk come for weddings and wine festivals. Most events, restaurants, and walking in general are on dirt roads. Hats, sunblock, sunglasses are strongly encouraged. During summer: Men’s attire is usually Havana shirts, kaki pants/ hybrid shorts, with leather sandals or comfy shoes. Women tend to wear light summer dresses with cork wedge shoes or flats. Even during summer, nights are chilly. You might want to bring along a cardigan sweater, smart/sport coat jacket, or a light summer shrug/pancho. Mid August a little drizzle: small umbrella and bug spray.
