Food Scene

There are several cafes and restaurants in Barna. The most upmarket is upstairs at the Twelve. Expect to pay €50pp including wine. Downstairs at the Twelve is more affordable, with costs half that of the upstairs restaurant which is good if you have a family. They also have a pizzeria which also does takeaways. For dedicated seafood lovers, O'Gradys on the pier is mainly a seafood restaurant. Prices similar to upstairs at the 12. Nourish is open during the day for lunches/coffees (€10 for lunch inc. coffee). Mulberrys provides good food too with an early bird menu- good for families.

Builín Blasta serves good lunches. There is a good pizzeria opposite the church- the owner being from Naples.

Galway has hundreds of eateries. My favourite upmarket place is the michelin starred Loam. Food is excellent, local and seasonal. Expect to pay €60pp for dinner inc. wine. On the coffee front, McCambridges has the cheapest, nicest coffee and you can sit outside (or inside) and watch the happenings of Galway pass by. I also like Food for Thought for basic lunch and free refills. Urban Grind on Sea Rd is nice for lunch too. Upmarket again, Ard Bia on the river is nice along with Kai, Dela, Oscars..... For cheaper fish & Chips McDonaghs on Quay St or Hooked on Henry St. serve good fayre.

Drinks & Nightlife

Padraicin's is the nearest pub, right beside the beach. Music is provided most nights during the summer. They also serve food but it can be hit and miss. The ubiquitous pool table keeps the kids entertained.

Everything Else

This is our blue flag surfing beach. Waves are good but not exceptional. If you are a good surfer looking for good waves, go to Lahinch. Here is less cool so you dont have to an expert. You can hire boards & wetsuits at Aloha surf school- lessons are also available. There is a lifeguard at the southern end of the beach. Theres can be bit of a rip where the stream enters so avoid this spot. Currents tend to move you slowly along the beach so look up on occasion and reposition yourself adjacent the lifeguard.
