Food Scene

Best fish & chips in town. all the fish is caught locally from their own boat and the chips are fat and fluffy. Like all the eateries in Killarney it gets really busy during summer dinner hours, so get there early if you don't wanna queue up.

Drinks & Nightlife

A centrally located bar in town. We go here for its craft beers, cider options (other than Bulmer's), and whiskey selection. if you are lucky you might run into a traditional music set and more established local bands play in the venue upstairs. There is also a big screen used for big sports events. There is so many options for drinks and nightlife in Killarney that its impossible to list them all. Whatever your tastes and interests I'm sure we can recommend a good evening out for you. When you reserve your room just send us a message detailing the kinds of events you would like to see and we are more than happy to help out.

Parks & Nature

This is a moderate hike to a mountain that will give you sprawling, beautiful views of the National Park and Killarney Lakes. It'll take around 2 to 3 hours depending upon ability. There are no signs for this mountain as its not on the well traveled tourist path and is frequented mostly by locals. This is perfect for beginner walkers or those with older children. It can also be incorporated with some other sightseeing spots to make a whole day trip. We can offer packed lunches upon request and tailored to your needs.

This is a full day hike up Ireland's highest mountain. It's a gorgeous way to spend a day, especially if you get good weather up on the top. It's not a technical climb but it is a long one. This hike is not for small children or the elderly... or for people who have never hiked before. It is definitely a doable trip for active walkers or fit folks. We offer guided day walks including lunch for a reasonable price. Damien is an experienced climber and has trekked in locations such as India, Pakistan, Bolivia and Chile.

A great day out with or without kids. Can be enjoyed as a trip around the Ring of Kerry or as a single trip from our cottage. A 40 minute drive away, Rossbeigh is the quintessential 'Irish Beach' and lives up to its place on the 'wild Atlantic way'. Scaling the sand dunes is great fun for all the family and a free playground is perfect for younger guests while the more adventurous can try boogie boarding and surfing.

A wonderful spot situated on the Ring of Kerry has lots to offer. The ancestral home of Daniel O'Connell, an important figure in the Irish liberation movement, now serves as a public museum to the man known as 'The Great Liberator'. A secluded beach that is perfect for families and those who wish to take a dip. On a sunny day this is a must for me, so much so I call this area the 'Costa Del Kerry'! Another great feature of this area is the Kerry dark sky reserve. A 700 square km park that offer dark unpolluted night skies. Perfect for star gazers and romantics.

Ireland's only UNESCO heritage site. Skellig Micheal is a unique and magical day out. 12 miles off the coast, this pyamiyd shape rock in the Atlantic ocean served as a 6th century monastery when the area was thought to be the edge of the world (before the 'discovery' of the Americas). More recently it has served as muse to Ireland great poets, a protected spot for Puffins to raise their chicks and hideout for Luke Skywalker in the latest Star Wars movie. Book early and hope for good weather if you plan to visit the rock itself, if not we can offer some great spots to enjoy the view from the mainland.

A heritage home on gorgeous grounds. Located in the National Park, Muckross House is a furnished 19th-century mansion set among mountains and woodland. Manicured lawns and gardens over views of the lakes offer great photo opportunities and if you get sunshine the perfect place to picnic. There's a cafeteria inside with reasonable meals and decent coffee as well. If you're with kids, check out the working farm on the property.

The spa at Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa (listed above) is awesome. Go there on a rainy day and warm up in their thermal spa - they've got multiple steam baths, saunas, showers and heated lounge chairs. It's around 20- 25 Euro for a day pass and worth it. If you book a treatment you can use the spa all day.
