The Embarcadero is worth walking. The Ferry building is there, shops, etc. But if you are there in the evening, look over to the Bay Bridge (Highway 80) and you'll see a wonderful art display of moving lights, it was a temporary installation, but everyone loved it so much (and it was inexpensive and low-energy LED), it's now permanent.
