Bedroom with attached bath, little kitchen, living room with a double sofa bed and fireplace. For your laundry: washing machine and outdoor stack & drying rack.Water tank assisted by pump which ensures a generous shower. The House is situated in the heart of Ortigia Island, surrounded by the main cultural sites and places of refreshment for every budget. Last but not least, three terraces(1 to rooftop level)ensure a splendid view over the rooftops and the legendary Harbour of the Island.

The space
No elevator: People who love the old towns know that their fascination lies in building conservation. Electricity and elevators came in Sicily, as in the rest of world, only in the early XX Century, when most of the Ortigia Barocco had already been built, so in “genuine old towns” as Ortigia, you can’t find elevators also because they are not structurally compatible with the narrow stairs of the little characteristic houses of the Island .This is the reason you can find elevators only in big newer cement buldings and big Hotels. In other words, if you like the Barocco with its corner stones and in the same time like panoramic terraces, it is inevitable, in Ortigia old houses, more scenery, more stairs to climb (65 steps in our apartament). Keep in mind, please, when about Ortigia, you make your the choice between staying in an old House or in a Hotel room.
The House is airy with an exposure that follows the Sun from Sunrise until our legendary ( Cicerone, Goethe ..) Sunset that falls right in front of the window in the bedroom, in turn served by terrace overlooking the Marina. This terrace also serves the living room from which, by sitting down and in front of the fireplace, turning his gaze can be admired at the same time, in addition to the Marina, also the rooftops of Ortigia through another terrace. To further appreciate the scenery, the Guest can count on a roof terrace with 360-degree views of the sea and rooftops.
The House is situated very near the Fountain of Arethusa, the Bellomo Museum, the Duomo, the Castello Maniace etc. Is surrounded by typical cafes & restaurants, good for all budgets, where culinary raids never banal.
Just below House (feet in the water) you can enjoy a beach of pebbles on the East side and on the West a sandy beach on the Marina. Less than 300 metres far, there is also a wood Solarium on the rocks; everything is open to the public with free admission.
Mobility is not a problem; below the House you can enjoy taxi and bus service which connects directly to the train station and to a bus depot and from here to the airport of Catania, the archaeological sites and the rest of the city. Free car parking is impractical in Ortigia because it is reserved only to resident people, but at the entrance of the island is available ample paid parking (parking Talete). Very near the House, two bus stops ( Bus n°1, 1 Euro inside fee/person) connect you to Talete Parking, Railway Station Square and bus depot from which to the rest of the city.We strongly recommend to plan check-in, which however is flexible, according the pedestrianisation time of Ortigia which is traffic free, to date Nov. 2016, in weekdays from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., in days before holidays from 4 p.m. and in public holidays from 11 a.m.. It is for avoiding to reach the apartament by walking for about 500 mts. Instead no problem if you choise a taxi transfer.

Where you’ll be

Island of Ortigia, Siracusa, Italy

WHY ORTIGIA? When you go beyond the Ortigia bridges, you closed with the rest of the world. Ortigia is an “isola” so “isolate” yourself in its alleys, forget your daily, serial countdowns, reappropriate the music of your footsteps on the pavement (you forgot it) and let Ortigia will impose its first rule, that is its rhythm. Inside its alleys silence, you will have, immediate, the perception of the cacophony of too fast footsteps. Here is the rhythm of the quail walk (Ortigia in Greek means quail), here is the rhythm of the conciliatory ticking of the Baroque’s stone cutters and not of the modern jackhammers. Following this new rhythm go slowly to the Marina and feed on sight of sunsets over the Grand Harbour, the same that sedated Cicerone, Goethe together with thousands and thousands of Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Spaniards, Aragonese. Chinese too are coming now to live in this UNESCO site.
Therefore go to Duomo Square and immerse yourself, when evening, in its whispered light, almost cowed by the charisma of the Cathedral, Christian jewel of an open air museum performed at passerby on the pedestal of the pre-existent Doric Temple, and so, truly a monument to our atavistic vocation at the reception and integration of different cultures ; this is the way we willed this square, no noisy entertainments, but meditative atmosphere. May God keep it like that to us, to you and UNESCO all.

I am a doctor. I hate the cement, so I love my Ortigia and its Barocque which smooths corners of stones and souls too. I love the Sea, the Mountain and the Great Outdoors in general. Finally I love the Music so I hate the Karaoke.
