Features: on-site grocery; picnic tables and BBQ grills; in-house gym, resort-style pool; sauna & steam rooms; free fitness classes; concierge in lobby. Leafy, cosmopolitan campus, gated entry. Gas stove, Quartz countertop, 43" wall-mounted TV. All utilities, Wi-Fi included. 1 stop to downtown. Garage parking @ $125/month.

The space
This handsome studio overlooks the Potomac River and Washington D.C.'s magnificent, milky-white monuments. The panoramic view includes the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials, Washington Monument, Capitol dome and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, as pictured.

Fully furnished and equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, it's located in the sought-after South building at River Place, a leafy, resort-style complex only minutes from DC. The apartment is minutes' walk to the Rosslyn metro station, itself only one stop from DC. An uncommon collection of major attractions is also within easy walking distance, as are acclaimed restaurants, Safeway supermarket, Target Express, Starbucks, CVS drugstore, and a splendid 360-degree View of DC Observation Deck.

Coronavirus COVID-19 update: We've worked with our housekeeper to implement strict sanitary and disinfection procedures. The in-house gym has been shut temporarily as a precautionary measure.

Still, it's hard to beat this ultra-convenient setting for a long-term stay, adjacent to the Potomac River, Georgetown and the monumental core of Washington D.C.

Important: 90-day minimum lease. Sorry, No pets. No inside smoking.

This 4th-floor unit measures 401 square feet. It features a full-sized double bed (54 inches wide by 74 inches long --137 cm x 187 cm), as well as a white faux leather loveseat with polished stainless-steel frame.

Included are high-gloss snow-white kitchen cabinets with accent lights; Quartz kitchen countertop; wall-mounted 43" flat panel Ultra HD TV; solid Bamboo hardwood floors; high-performance, double-pane picture window and blinds; new bathroom vanity, crushed marble sink and lighted medicine chest.

The 43" Ultra HD LG internet-enabled smart TV (new in 2020) lets you log into any of your video streaming accounts such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney, YouTube, etc. It also pulls in some 200 free channels, and you can activate its built-in Amazon Alexa and/or Google's Assistant, if you'd like.

Early check-in may be available on your day of arrival. If so, we're very happy to accommodate.

The River Place South building is the jewel of the gated community. It's home to the sprawling Entertainment Center, including 10,000+square foot gym. The complex provides very easy access to key highways, including the George Washington Memorial Parkway, Routes 50 and 29, and I-66, the only Interstate highway running west from Washington D.C. into northern Virginia.

The apartment features a dedicated, high-speed Verizon FiOS 100 Mbps Wi-Fi network -- in addition to a separate, building-wide network that's useful as a backup.

The apartment itself is sunny with its wall-to-wall picture window framing the stunning view; walk-in closet and built-in bookcases. It's equipped with kitchenware and linens. This unit also includes a contemporary galley kitchen with full-size refrigerator, disposal and microwave oven.

From the apartment, you may walk across the picturesque Key Bridge in about 15 minutes to D.C.'s trendy Georgetown neighborhood of ethnic restaurants, lively clubs and bustling nightlife. Also nearby is Theodore Roosevelt Island, an 88.5-acre nature preserve in the Potomac crisscrossed by trails and boardwalk that transport you from the urban environment. Zipcar and Capital Bikeshare stations are within a couple minutes' walk from what would be your new front door.

A concierge is on duty seven days a week in the River Place South recently renovated, upscale lobby. Community amenities include a well-kept resort-style outdoor pool, complete with lap lanes and a Jacuzzi-like hot whirlpool, set off in a Zen-style Japanese rock garden.

Other major conveniences: an on-site grocery store (open until at least 11 p.m. 7 days a week), hair salon/spa; and picnic tables plus barbecue grills. On-site parking is typically available from third parties for an additional $100 to $125 per month, depending on location. Washer/dryers are located on the building's first floor, their prices capped at $1.50 per load (washing) and $1.50 per load (drying).

River Place lies just opposite the Iwo Jima Monument National Park -- home to the photo-turned-iconic sculpture of U.S. Marines raising the flag during the World War II Battle of Iwo Jima. The property also is close to jogging and biking trails along the Potomac River, upscale shopping in nearby Clarendon and acclaimed restaurants. Check out the terrace of the nearby Quarterdeck, a storied crab shack noted for Maryland blue crabs, crab cakes, oyster sandwiches, clam chowder and frozen Key Lime pie.

The newest arrival: Michelin-starred chef Fabio Trabocchi has crossed the Potomac River for the first time in his Washington career. He's opened a third location of his Northwest D.C. pasta house Sfoglina -- just one block from the gate house that controls vehicular access to the property.

For touring, the location is perfect: the Rosslyn Metro station is an intersection of the Orange, Blue and (newest) Silver metro lines. With three lines converging, the next train to DC typically involves almost no waiting.

D.C.'s Ronald Reagan National airport (DCA) is a straight shot by the metro's Blue line, as is the Pentagon. One stop away on the Orange line is DC's Foggy Bottom Metro stop -- steps from the U.S. State Department, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the campus of George Washington University.

Separately, a $1 shuttle bus whisks you over the Key Bridge to Georgetown from Rosslyn and then to Dupont Circle, the heart of DC's intellectual life. Nearby are many of the nation's most prestigious think tanks and research institutions, including the Brookings Institution, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the German Marshall Fund, The Eurasia Center, the Peterson Institute and the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of The Johns Hopkins University. They feature public policy-related events such as expert panel discussions that are free and open to the public. Check online calendars for listings.

Restaurants, coffee shops, banks, Target Express, Safeway supermarket and CVS drug store are all just around the corner from River Place -- either on or next to Wilson Boulevard, Arlington's main road.

NOTES:
The D.C. Circulator bus runs among Dupont Circle, Georgetown and Rosslyn. For $1, you may hop on the Circulator at the corner of 19th St. N. and N. Moore St. -- minutes from River Place -- and zip across the Key Bridge into D.C. For the return trip, pick up the bus in Dupont or Georgetown. Buses run every 10 minutes from 7:00 a.m. - midnight Sunday through Thursday and 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 a.m. on weekends.

From the same spot: The Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS) is a free shuttle bus for faculty, staff, students, and others affiliated with Georgetown University and Medstar Georgetown University Hospital.

Arlington, Virginia, United States

Rosslyn is super-convenient for working or studying in the DC area. Everything is at your fingertips, including trendy Georgetown cafes, restaurants and boutique shopping. The neighborhood -- and this unit -- overlook the Potomac River and DC's monumental core. Directly across the river lies the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

In November 2018, Amazon ended its widely publicized nationwide search for headquarters expansion. Arlington emerged as its final choice for the largest share of 50,000 new high-tech jobs over the next decade.

I'm a career reporter, based for long stints in New York, Paris, Bangkok, Washington D.C. and, as a visiting professor, in Shanghai. Am happy to steer visitors to interesting spots in and around D.C. When I'm out of town, an in-house assistant manages key hand-offs and orientations to the property. As a guest, I pride myself on taking excellent care of others' homes. I like to err on the side of kindness, and appreciate others who feel and act similarly.
