Steeped in tranquility, this tiny guest cottage is set in wildflower-filled rolling hills in New Ulm, TX. near Round Top/Warrenton venues. Comforts include queen bed, mini-kitchen, private garden shower, firepit, hammock, rocking chairs, deck, STARS!

The space
--The studio-style space is tiny, self-contained and private, and just a short distance from the main farmhouse. It has essentials for cooking, eating, sleeping and deep contemplation--it's more like cozy ship's quarters than a luxury suite. --The "bathroom" is a European-style screened toilet, and the cottage sink serves both kitchen and bath. The outdoor, hot-water shower is private.
--the mini-kitchen includes a microwave, toaster oven, electric teapot, coffee pot, and an induction single-burner cooktop with appropriate cookware. A charcoal grill is also available for guests' use.
--The queen bed is comfortable (memory foam).
--A BYOW (bring your own wood) outdoor fireplace is available for roasting marshmallow or gazing into the flames EXCEPT during times of drought when a burn ban is in effect or during high winds.
--Coffee and tea, creamer, salt & pepper are provided.

Guest access
--Guests have complete and exclusive access to the cottage. As well, guests are invited to wander around the property and pilfer the garden behind the cottage for veggies or herbs in season. It is requested that guest refrain from entering the fenced livestock (that is, horse) areas without permission or the barn.

Other things to note
--There is an abundance of wildlife around (if you listen, in the evening you can hear the coyote chorus), and millions of stars in the night sky. Guests should feel free to wander around, even at night.
--That said, covered footwear is encouraged--stickers do find their way onto the property, and, as this is the country, various other less-than-welcome inhabitants of the Texas countryside could be present. Oddly (and happily), mosquitoes seemed to have decided to give our place a miss.
--There are two cats (nominally) on the premises, one of which you'll probably never see (shy). The other feels it's her duty to greet guests.
--There is also a horse on the property; she is friendly, and a shameless beggar, but guests are asked to please refrain from giving her food without prior permission (hint: apples and carrots in limited quantities will usually be okay).
--It is generally blissfully quiet around here, HOWEVER, there is a train track down the road aways, so the occasional train horn is heard (but quickly goes away). Also, the cows in the next pasture sometimes feel the need to MOO, loudly.

New Ulm, Texas, United States

--This is seriously TEXAS. Small town, big heart. New Ulm has a couple of restaurants. The most popular local stop is the Texas Star, which offers terrific breakfasts, Texas-style lunch, and dinner on selected evenings. In town is also a new cafe, Tin Lizzie, serving Cajun-style poorboys and amazing desserts, with extended lunch hours (11-6 pm) and (rumor has it) dinner hours will be added soon.
--More on restaurants: Just down the road is Pivo's Ice House, which as a great selection of craft beers, awesome chicken wings (and other food) and a fabulous view at sunset. Further down the road in Fayetteville (approx. 8 miles from the cottage) there are several more restaurants, included the recommended Joe's Place. Just a jot further down the road, you will find numerous restaurants in Roundtop. In the other direction, Columbus also has quite a few restaurants, including some outstanding German food (Schobels).
--If you want to cook, the Hometown Hardware store in New Ulm actually carried food basics, so if you need milk, cheese, eggs, butter, bacon, potatoes and other things (including frozen dinners) this would be your first stop. North on Hwy 109 is a more general general store in Industry, Texas, which carries everything from fantastic BBQ, rubber boots, and guinea hens to milk, eggs, yogurt, and avocados (and everything in between). And they serve it up with a smile.
--If you must have a supermarket, there are both HEB and Brookshire Brothers in Columbus (15 miles).
--And of course, there are nearby international venues for antique shopping in Roundtop, Warrenton, and Wynedale.

During your stay
--The guest cottage will be open when you arrive, and there is a key hanging near the sink. At the end of your stay, just put the key in the same place, and leave the cottage unlocked as you found it or give it directly to me.
--I will usually be around if you need assistance with anything. However, depending on your time of arrival, I may be en route. I love visiting with guests, but will completely respect your privacy. I'm also very happy to share my (so far limited, but growing) knowledge of the area--just ask!
