ROMPIN HOUSE IN FRASER’S HILL
(also known as Duberly House)

Located in Fraser’s Hill, Peninsular Malaysia, Rompin House is a boutique get-away which features a fabulous architectural display of British Colonial family living. Offering views of the crevasse and hill forest, and fringed by beautiful gardens and outdoor deck that peer over the rainforest landscape where guests can enjoy the refreshing air and the cool weather. This nearly 100 years old renovated bungalow is tastefully decorated with a British Colonial Styled interior design to reflect its “Little England” heritage complete with a fire place. With an altitude of between 1300 to 1500 meters above sea level the place enjoys a year round temperatures of between 17-25’C. Do bring suitable clothings.

Fraser’s Hill is known for its highland rainforest and extensive birdlife and extremely suitable for all nature lovers. It was named after a Scottish tin merchant Louis James Frasers. The mining activities in the late 1890s were conducted around this place and L.J. Frasers used this area as his base. The mining area is now Malaysia’s oldest golf course, which is still in operation. L.J. Frasers mysteriously disappeared in 1916. In 1917 two Reverends suggested the setting up of Frasers Hill as a hill station. The demand of hill stations in Malaya then was due to the World War 1, which prevented the British from returning to Europe. Consequently they necessitate cool areas to escape the warm area of the lowland. The place was officially named Frasers Hill in December 1921.

One of the bungalows built for this purpose was named after a British Resident “Duberly”. The bungalow was later renamed "Rompin House"

Located along Jalan Semantan just a corner before the Smokehouse Hotel, the house can be reached by following the directions to Jeriau Waterfall from Fraser’s Hill Town Center, where the house appears on the right, just before the Rompin Trail.

There are 8 interesting and challenging trails in Frasers Hill namely Bishop Trail, Hammant Trail, Abu Suradi Trail, The Pine Tree Trail, The Mager Trail, The Rompin Trail (which is a few steps away from Rompin House’s gate), The Kindersley Trail and The Maxwell Trail. We recommend that our guests engage the services of a certified trekking guide for all trekking activities for safety reason.

Apart from spending time reading the many book collections in the house, the are many other outdoor activities one may enjoy while in Frasers Hill such as golfing, horse riding, archery, blow pipe, boating, bird watching, bathing at the Jeriau Waterfall as well as “bungalow hopping”- a drive around to see the many colonial styled bungalows in Frasers Hill. There is a birds’ museum and a library in the town centre for those who are interested to know more about the history of the place.

The house is within an hour and 35 minutes’ drive to Genting Highland and Bukit Tinggi. The capital city, Kuala Lumpur is a 2-hour drive away and the shortest route to Frasers Hill would be via Rawang - Kuala Kubu Baru – Ampang Pecah – Gap route. For those who wish to experience a different kind of adrenaline rush while driving or biking, do take the winding roads up the hill while enjoying the scenic views of a tropical rain forest along the way. “Little England” awaits you!
