Where you’ll be

Washington, District of Columbia, United States

You'll never need a car in the vibrant, convenient, friendly, Chevy Chase DC. Our AirBnB is four blocks from the Friendship Heights Metro and one block from the start of the Connecticut Ave. bus route.
Washington is less than 12 square miles, so you're never far from anywhere. The subway will take you to Capitol Hill, the FREE Smithsonian museums and the Archives.

And there's a lot to do within 1-7 blocks of the house. Fifty steps lead to a yoga studio. Walk around the corner to on Connecticut Ave. NW, and come home with eclairs, giant shrimp, handmade candy, coffee, aspirin, fresh veg, yoga pants, a bottle of wine an ice cream cone and a pedicure. Or eat lunch at Jetties, take in a movie at the iconic Avalon movie theater, buy Legos at Child's Play and pick up the best cheeseburger in America at Macon. Further down Connecticut, is Politics and Prose, (Authors appearing every day.) Comet Pizza, Little Red Fox and Sugar Fox, Bucks Hunting and Fishing and Rosemary's, all delicious.
Make a left on Western, walk a block and cross McKinley St. to get to the Chevy Chase Recreation Center. It has a fenced-in dog park, playground with two splash areas for kids, tennis and basketball courts.
Keep walking (or driving) down Western Ave for 2 more blocks and you'll see Bloomingdales, Eileen Fisher, Whole Foods, TJMaxx, Marshalls, Magianos, Clyde's, Cheesecake Factory and Michael's. Trader Joe's is one stop away on the Metro.
The state-of-the-art Wilson Aquatic Center is open (they charge a fee for non DC residents). Nearby: Rock Creek Park, the Crescent Trail --hike or take a CityBike from here to Georgetown or the Kennedy Center and several monuments. The National Zoo, Hillwood House, Cleveland Park, Embassy Row, the Vice President's Residence, and National Cathedral. (Bring binoculars to see 112 gargoyles and more than 3,000 grotesques) with a short drive or Uber away.

Marguerite is from New Orleans where she met and married an Irishman from Washington. They moved to DC, into the Capitol Hill house where Tom grew up, and in 1971 they moved to the house on the corner where he had helped in the garden as a child. Tom and Marguerite have been lifelong journalists and raised a family of writers, artists and teachers here. Marguerite just retired (at 80+) from her family advice column of 35 years. She is enjoying her freedom and sharing the apartment in this wonderful house with visitors to Washington.
