The Boathouse is an eco-friendly, cozy, unique, romantic retreat space on the banks of saltwater - tidal Lawrencetown Lake, only 25 kms from Downtown Halifax. It is ideally suited for 2 adults. The Boathouse is our lovingly renovated and restored family boathouse about 200 feet from our main house.
Please read entire description before deciding if this space is for you.

The space
This 269 sq foot space has been designed to be as water smart as possible. The shower receives its water from a 750L storage tank filled from a naturally spring fed well. The water is heated with a propane on-demand system. The sink has a marine hand water pump that pumps its fresh water from an under counter tank, and grey water empties into another tank. The grey water is emptied, filtered and used for the garden. The final piece of the puzzle is the modern Swedish composting toilet that requires no water at all and is vented for no odour. So while the average human uses up to 300 litres of water a day (I know, crazy right?) at The Boathouse we aim for a daily average of 50-60 litres per person per day.

The house sleeps 2. With a queen bed in the main living space and a double bed in the sleeping loft. The loft is very snug and cozy and recommended for older children or smaller adults only. Not suitable for younger children or those with mobility issues.

The kitchen features a mini fridge, hot plate, electric kettle, toaster/convection oven big enough to bake everything from frozen pizza, cookies, muffins and your morning toast. The kitchen is equipped with everything you'll need for your escape, all you need to bring is the food!

The bathroom features a Swedish composting toilet and a stand up shower. The toilet requires no water and the solid and liquid waste are separated into different tanks which helps prevent odour. These tanks are emptied and cleaned before each rental. The shower receives it's water from a 750L storage tank. The water is heated by a propane on-demand system.

The house has a small electric heater located in the bathroom, however its main source of heat is the high efficiency wood stove. We provide all the firewood you need. There is also a modern small fire pit on the deck for outdoor lounging.

No air condition is required for those hot summer days, just open the sliding patio doors or crack a window for beautiful salty breezes off the lake.

EACH RESERVATION COMES WITH A COMPLIMENTARY GIFE BASKET OF SWEET AND SAVORY SNACKS AND DRINKS. VALUE $50+

Where you’ll be

Mineville, Nova Scotia, Canada

Mineville was originally founded by Scottish settlers in the late 1700’s. Durning the 19th and 20th centuries many gold mines where established and gold was mined for many years. All the mines are no longer active however their history remains in the name of our community. Mineville is a 12 minute drive to Cole Harbour for all your shopping needs, 8 minutes to Lawrencetown beach and 30 minutes to downtown Halifax.
