Welcome to the Green Dinosaur - our incredibly cozy and welcoming little 1-bedroom urban jungle/oasis less than 10 minutes from Bern old town. Located in one of the loveliest areas of Bern (Fischermätteli), our urban oasis offers guests a peaceful place to rest or work, with an organic grocery store and a famous Gelateria just 200 meters from the apartment. This space has a really special feel.

The space
In the main living/dining room you'll find cozy Scandinavian style furniture surrounded by lots of (real) green plants (this is a plant-lovers kind of place). Brilliant sunlight floods the room throughout the day, and the blinds can be drawn for a darkened room. We've enlivened the space with design features we love, with Wally, the Green Dinosaur, in the background. In the living room you'll find some games and books you're free to play or read (please don't remove any books from the apartment), or watch TV. We have Apple TV with both Netflix and Disney + available to log into with your account. We also have the highest speed internet available (fiber glass) and an ethernet cable available just in case you have that really important call or event and you want to be extra sure the connection is good. The dining area boasts a farmhouse table large enough for a nice dinner evening with a couple of respectful guests (no parties allowed, but friends for dinner is ok).

Bedroom
In the bedroom you'll find a new King-sized bed with fresh linen (and extra bedding). This bed is a dream to sleep in. You'll also find a clothing wardrobe with hangers to put away your things, an ironing board and iron in the bedroom are also available for you to use. There are blinds you can lower in the bedroom to create a darkened atmosphere for sleeping. A small desk by the window offers the loveliest view of an old pine tree and gorgeous light. There's a full length mirror in the room and an electric piano, just in case you get the itch to play and want to have a go! Please only make respectful use of the piano as it is precious to us. Oh, one other thing, there are fans in both the living room and bedroom should you wish to make use of them.

Kitchen
The kitchen is tiny but mighty - it has all the things you could wish for in a kitchen, including a Kitchenaid mixer, electric kettle, microwave, pots and pans, baking ware, hand mixer, and, let's not forget, a coffee machine (Nespresso) with a variety of coffee capsules available (including decaf!). Because this is a space we also occupy part-time, the kitchen is loaded with spices and herbs you're welcome to use. In the entree there is a large red hutch that also houses a Raclette machine and a Fondue pot and forks.

Bathroom
The bathroom is small but well-stocked with all that you could need. There are two shower nozzles - a traditional and a rain shower head system if you want to really amp up that urban jungle experience. The water pressure is lovely, despite being on the 3rd floor. You'll find plenty of toilet paper, tissues, a first aid kit in the cabinet, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner available to use. Fluffy fresh towels will, of course, be provided.

Outside
You couldn't find a lovelier quartier, in our humble opinion, than the Fischermaetteli. Just outside the door and across the street you'll find the number 6 tram, which is currently being operated by a bus until October 2020 (Bus 6a), which takes you within 10 minutes to the Bern main station. From the same stop you disembark, you can board the bus to head back home. It's super easy and a cozy ride. As anyone who has ridden public transport in Switzerland knows, the buses, trams and trains are clean and efficient. Just down the road there is an Apotheke (pharmacy), the organic grocery store, the Gelateria, and an outdoor area where many people sit and gather to read or chat or drink a cup of something together.

Parking
There's paid street parking in the blue zone spaces around the neighborhood. You can purchase day cards for blue zone parking at the bus stations. If you need further assistance with this, we'll try and organize this for/with you. If you can ditch the auto altogether, that's probably best. You don't need a car in the city, and you could consider a car service, like Mobility, if you need a car for a day trip.

*For stays longer than 1 week, we can provide a cleaning service to dust, vacuum, clean the bathroom, and change/wash the bedsheets. (This is optional, and can be arranged after booking, or we can leave you alone).

To sum up, our place is seriously lovely. It's located in an old building, so the walls are well loved and the floors are old wood. We love this, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea, so please be mindful of this when you consider booking. There is also a church nearby whose bells ring in the morning and periodically during the day. Honestly, I only ever notice them in the morning, and so I can't tell you their schedule, but they are unobtrusive in our opinion and maybe you'll even adore them and the atmosphere they create.

Oh yeah, and, plants. And a green dinosaur. :)

We're an international family (American/Swiss) of four (us and our two growing children), who've found that love and family have meant needing to spend time on different continents. We also love to travel, and we love Airbnb for the flexibility and experience it's provided our family as we move through the world.  We appreciate spaces that remind us of home; spaces that are warm and welcoming.  We're also those guests who take pleasure in taking care of the spaces we occupy, especially those that have less of a 'this is a business' feel and more of a 'this is a home that we're sharing' feel.  We relish the personal touches and design elements, and look forward to hosting and being hosted more in the future.   Feel free to ask us anything.
