Yurt stay in a Yorkshire small holding. A comfy king bed with a wood/ coal burning fire, microwave, kettle, toaster. Separate shower and toilet in the old dairy. Situated in a 4 acre field, with lovely views. Sharing the field with our friendly sheep, chickens and Moustaches the cat. Semi- rural location 25 mins’ walk from Todmorden centre and the railway station. This is more like camping than glamping. Probably ideal for walkers or people wanting to get to the countryside without a car

The space
The toilet and shower are in the former dairy outhouse which is located at the top of the field. There is a large step up to the outhouse which will not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. We used this yurt and used the outhouse for 18 months while making the barn into a house. Now it is available for your pleasure! We’re on The Calderdale Way so it is not totally isolated and we get walkers passing via the path at the top of the field - especially on a sunny day. You will likely hear and see lots of birds including Tawny Owls and sometimes we have deer, and always plenty of rabbits. There is a trainline at the bottom of the field and you will hear the train pootling along but I don’t find it intrusive - occasionally a steam train passes by. A bbq is available (byo bbq coal) and a wood / coal burning stove. We supply some kindling, wood and smokeless coal for one fire - you can bring your own or buy more from us. Only smokeless coal allowed though as Smokey coal can cause a fire in the chimney. Washing machine and dryer are also available for longer stays (longer stays only recommended for the hardy!) I would like some small coinage if you use the washer or dryer. The cooking facilities available are a microwave, kettle and toaster and bbq. There is also a cool box which can be plugged in to cool things down. I find the yurt to be a very pleasant space but it is basic and more of a camping vibe than glamping, but with a comfy bed and electricity, a table and chairs etc. Wellies and head torches are advised. It can be cold at night so bring pjs or be prepared to make the fire. Fire does toast the place up pretty quickly and the smokeless coal lasts many hours. You can check yourself in, there are instructions in the toilet and yurt which you should read. Kids are welcome but there are some hazards so best to discuss first. My cat moustaches can enter the yurt through the cat flap so only book if you are a cat fan. :-) we also have sheep and chickens. Sheep might be in the field with you or sectioned off. They might come up to you if they think you have food. Please don’t give them any food though :-) Please arrange parking with us - there is a space in front of our house if we know in advance. The road up is a private road and as a consequence it is badly maintained and a very bumpy ride! No dogs I’m afraid. I do love them but sheep and moustaches not fans.

Where you’ll be

West Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom

The main attraction here is walking and Gaddings Dam - a swimming spot. Todmorden is a 25 min walk away or £3 taxi. Tod’ is a community minded small Yorkshire town with lots of independent shops, including The Golden Lion pub, with authentic Thai food, music and generally cool vibes, Calderdale Cheeshouse and another dairy in the indoor market, Stansfield butcher ( indoor market) with local meat for your bbq, Tod Almighty (a whole food vegan organic shop) and the cute indoor market with coffee shops and a bar and an outdoor market with junk on Thursday, veg and fish on Weds and Friday and nice bread in a Saturday. Also Weatherspoons, fish and chips and take away pizza (Woody’s) a Lidl, a Morrisons and an Aldi. We also have longfield equestrian centre if you fancy trying a horse riding lesson, or they do trips out in summer if you have experience.

Nearby is Hebden Bridge - pretty little town can be quite busy with tourists. Nice walks from there and vocation brewery worth a visit! Plus you can buy clogs from the clog factory.
Howarth is a bus away, Brontës lived there and you can visit their house and there is a steam Trainline nearby which is often open.
Manchester is 25 -35 mins on the train
Leeds is one hour away by train.
Also possible to get to Harrogate, Skipton, Scarborough in public transport but more like 2 hour journey.
The Yorkshire Dales and Malham Cove etc is an hours drive.

During your stay

I will greet you if I am here, or you can check yourself in with the instructions . Otherwise you will probably see us in the field, sorting the chickens, tending the veg etc. We also have a cat who considers the yurt part of his territory. If you don’t like cats or are allergic, you probably don’t want to stay here. Moustaches is spoilt (and adorable!)
