Welcome to Sparrow’s Song Cottage! The perfect rustic retreat from modern life. We call it our very own private “Sunrise point”, because of the daily uninterrupted-180 degree view of the sunrise behind the mighty Churdhar peak. Get back to nature with muddy walks, fresh air and panoramic mountain views. 25 km ahead of Shimla and 6 km ahead of Kufri, located in Village Reog - Fagu, this 1980-built traditional Pahari wooden house has been modestly restored as well as updated with modern tastes.

The space
The cottage is located far above a quiet country lane, so there are no noisy main roads or constant traffic and pollution to disturb your peace and quiet. Except for the rare chainsaw whirring in the distance or the occasional truck heaving its way up NH-5, which is a 2km drive from the house. The cottage is a 500 metre uphill trek from the parking spot so don’t forget your walking shoes. Please be prepared to carry in your belongings (we highly recommend backpacks), but if you would need help, kindly inform us in advance so we could request someone from the village to help you. Please note, this service is extra and depends entirely on the availability of our local porter.

Like a typical rural setting, it’s a back-to-basics, no-frills experience. A rustic mud house that sleeps 1-7 people. The downstairs room has 2 beds, a queen bed suitable for a snuggly couple, and a single bed for a lone ranger. The floors and walls are made with mud & wood, making them slightly uneven, while the roof is original wood, making it slightly loud when people walk overhead. Therefore we always prefer letting the space out to only one group at a time to reduce noise inconvenience. The bathroom is not attached to the room but adjoins the same patio.

The upstairs bedroom is a wooden room with a large bed fit for a king and ample space for another floor mattress. The window in the room looks out into the hallway since it is built in the traditional pahadi style, which explains the low ceilings throughout the home, to be specific around 6ft. Fun fact: The traditional pahadi architecture of having low ceilings is the reason why the house is naturally earthquake resistant, naturally insulated and naturally able to regulate indoor temperatures when the weather outside is unpleasant.
The bathroom adjoins the same hallway alongwith a tiny dressing room.

The rooms are very comfortable and cosy, but it isn’t luxury. Perfect for those looking to just relax, slow down and unwind.

Our guests aren’t renting a random guest room, but are immersing themselves into the whole slow-living experience and a front-row seat into the story of 2 townies who have carved out a simple space they call their home in the mountains.

While breakfast is complimentary, other meals are EXTRA and need to be booked before arrival. Meals can be booked from a simple menu OR guests can prepare their own meals in the kitchen to which they will have access.

The cottage does NOT currently have WIFI but there is decent reception and 4G. Please be aware of this before you book to avoid disappointment.

Our village is full of trails leading through orchards, fields and woods. You're welcome to explore responsibly. If you should go for a picnic in the surrounding areas make sure you bring the trash back to the cottage with you. Needless to say that any sort of loud noise (music), honking etc that may disturb the locals will not be appreciated.

Me and my wife are 2 creatives living the slow life in a tiny mountain village. We love music, dogs, travelling, people, gathering around food and generally being joyful.

During your stay

A caretaker would be available in the property round the clock, though we ourselves would be just a call away. Although we share our time between two residences, expect us around the premises on and off. The space will always house atleast one of our 3 dogs, so look forward to spending quality time with furries that absolutely adore human company. Though the intermittent barking that might mildly disrupt the otherwise deafening silence.
