The space
A fun, upbeat, positive, inspiring, Beachy, Oceanic Vibe is seen throughout most all of the home, featuring the soothing Aqua, Teal, and Blue tones of the Pacific. We have incorporated rich textures, patterns, natural woods and fibers / materials, as well as themes of local Hawaiian Nature and Culture, wherever possible.

Our home strives to be mostly Organic, to be as Pesticide / Chemical Toxin-Free, and as Green and Sustainable as possible. Recycling Bin available. Living on an Island it is very important to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We also do our best to conserve Water and Electricity as part of being Green. We collect our own Rain Water to use for our plants, have a "Recycle Garden", and grow our own fresh organic herbs and a few greens, including wild field greens.

We are hardly ever in the Living Room, so you would have it mostly to yourself.

There are small LED night lights throughout the home for safety at night.

Security and Safety:

The neighborhood is very good, fairly affluent, and safe/secure. We have deadbolts built into our very heavy metal screen doors to allow for increased ventilation without sacrificing any security. You have a guest controlled lock on the inside of your Private Bedroom. If you feel strongly that you have need of a Safe or Lockbox for private, sensitive, &/or valuable items, we should be able to obtain for you. Additionally there is a guest controlled lock on the inside of your Private Bathroom.

The Police Station, Fire Station, and full service Hospital complete with ICU & Emergency Room are all very close within 1 - 2 miles away. Your on site Co-host is CPR and First Aid trained as well.

Where you’ll be

Kailua, Hawaii, United States

Kailua / Lanikai has it ALL ! Sun, Surf, & Sand on one side, beautiful mountains and jungle with Waterfalls (Maunawili) on the other side, with a couple three protected wetlands / Bird Sanctuaries in between including the Hamakua marsh/ swamp behind Firestone. Many wonderful delicious ethnic and local cuisines to sample right in Kailua. A plethora of delightful boutiques line the streets of Kailua. Several Coffee Shops, Juice Bars, Ice Cream and Yogurt Shops. Six Grocery Stores within a 1 mile radius, including the iconic Whole Foods and local favorite Down To Earth Organic markets, plus Farmers Markets available. Thursday nights are the Outdoor Festival and Farmers Market across from Long's Drug and ULTA. Surf shop, Dive shop, Kayak Rentals, Bike Shop/Rentals, Bowling alley, Skate park, Movie Theatre, Sports Bars, and even cool discount Thrift shops where you can pick up all kinds of sporting / ocean gear, last minute fun vacation wear, additional luggage, and items with the local Hawaiian flavor as souvenirs all to benefit local charities ( Goodwill and Salvation Army ). Kalama Beach Park is lovely, charming, and a slightly more intimate setting than Kailua Beach Park. There are 2 or 3 Golf courses / Country Clubs in close proximity to Kailua and near the Pali Hwy. Public Library, pool, tennis, and basketball courts. Massage Therapist, Yoga Studio, Hula Instructors, and the UFC Gym. In nearby Kaneohe, there is a cool ROSS Discount Department Store, 24 Hour Fitness Gym, Shopping Mall, beautiful Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden, and a group practice Ukelele Club with free group lessons. In nearby Waimanalo there is Horseback riding, stables, and Polo, to make like a Paniolo Cowboy, and even more amazing Beaches ! At one time there was a Pop Up rental for Kite Surfing and lessons, and probably still is, in Kailua Beach Park. Also adjoining Kailua Beach Park, Buzz's Waterfront Steakhouse and the little Green Kalapawai Market. You will also note the many colorful Outrigger Canoes at Kailua Beach Park and can usually see the local teams practicing in the bay in the late afternoons, along with the Kite surfers and SUP Stand Up Paddlers. We hear there is good snorkeling right off Lani Kai Beach with Sea Turtle sightings. You may Kayak out to the two picturesque Mokulua Islands at Lanikai, which are both Bird Sanctuaries also. Also can easily swim or snorkel out to Flat Island which is right off the boat dock in Kailua Beach Park. There is a Yacht Club right between Kailua and Kaneohe about 4 miles away. 9 miles away is the Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail and incredibly breathtaking Scenic Overlook, as well as the wonderful Sea Life Park with dolphins and seals, etc. High above Kailua inside the ample cleavage of the Ko'olau mountains is the Pali Lookout with more incredible views of the whole Windward coastlines of Kailua, Kaneohe, and Waimanalo ( notably also the site of the only old original highway pass for 1800's / early 1900's travel in covered wagons and buggies from Honolulu town to Kailua side, as well as the exciting site of Ancient battlegrounds between Hawaiian Island Chieftains and Warriors). On the other side of Kaneohe is a charming Marina where you may see fishermen reel in a baby hammerhead shark by accident from time to time, and driving onwards a few miles you encounter Temple Valley, the great Buddhist Temple, the Chinaman's Hat Island, and Kualoa Ranch of Jurassic Park fame, as well as an Orchid Farm, and a Macadamia Nut Farm. Just below Adventist Health Castle Medical Center is an ancient Sacred Site Heiau pyramid and terraced agriculture and irrigation systems of the ancient Hawaiians just behind the YMCA ( this is a hidden treasure ) and overlooking the expansive Kawanui marsh lands. Challenging Three Peaks Olomana Hiking trail is just outside on the edge of Kailua. Do NOT attempt either of these trails ( 3 Peaks or Maunawili ) anywhere close to sundown or when raining ( slippery mud & slippery rocks/boulders, flash flood risk ). When you see locals and travelers alike sporting "I Love Kailua Town" T-shirts and bumper stickers, it is for ALL these stunning reasons, and so many more ! What will YOU discover when you are here !?!?
