This hand built log cabin is 792 sq ft and “off the grid.” It features 6 large solar panels for electricity and a backup generator.

Ely Log Cabin is a blissful retreat tucked into the woods, just 15 minutes away from the heart of downtown Ely. Enjoy out-the-door hiking, star gazing (no light pollution!), toasting marshmallows over the campfire, and unplugging in nature on 40 private acres.

The space
Enjoy off grid amenities with your "glamping" experience. The solar panels and batteries have limited capacity. Since solar powers our water pump from the well, water is not unlimited. Guests must conserve water during their stay.

The kitchen features a double burner propane cooktop, a toaster, a tea kettle and a pour over coffee maker. Brew yourself a fresh cup of tea or locally roasted coffee and watch the sunrise from the loft or the brand new front porch/deck.

Mini fridge with a tiny built in freezer (big enough to fit 2-3 small pints of ice cream.

Two queen size beds are located upstairs in the loft. Guests with limited mobility should keep this in mind before booking. The ladder stairs are very steep and different than what you are probably used to. The open-concept loft is flooded with natural light. Imagine waking up from a restful night’s sleep to a beautiful sunrise over the valley. Enjoy a cup of locally roasted Gene Hicks coffee from the loft or take it outside and listen to the birds sing.

A brand new comfortable pullout couch is downstairs in the living room.

You’ll feel relaxed and renewed during your stay at this eco-conscious Northwoods log cabin retreat. This is a special spot, but it’s an off-the-grid, glamping experience. We encourage guests to come with realistic expectations and be ready to enjoy the wilderness! It's a cabin in the woods!

We have stretching bars, pullup bars, yoga mats, a foam roller and a kettlebell so you can move your body and stay active while on vacation!

The cabin is just a few minutes off of the highway, and very easy to access, yet offers plenty of privacy on 40 wooded acres. The cabin is just a few miles away from two gorgeous state parks: Bear Head and Vermillion with miles of beautiful paved trails and a public swimming beach. There is public river and lake access for those who want to canoe or fish on Lake Vermillion.

We bought our dream cabin in 2020 and have enjoyed fixing it up and making it our home away from home. You’ll find unique surprises throughout the cabin that reflect who we are as people.
