Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Newly renovated, fully furnished studio apartment in private home (dedicated entrance/parking). Great for individual/couple. Queen bed, walk-in shower, Wifi & entertainment system, kitchen w/ washer/dryer. Wooded lot, winter views of mountains. 2-minute drive to quaint Black Mountain; lively Asheville 20 minutes west. Montreat hiking/cycling trails minutes away. Hosts are long-time residents and happy to advise on recreation, dining and entertainment options.

The space
Everything you need to enjoy your stay for a weekend, a week or more. Ground-level suite with natural light, comfortable seating and bedding, well-equipped kitchen (no dishwasher, but brand new washer/dryer). Integrated entertainment/sound system. Heating/cooling system tied to the main house, with lots of flexibility to assure your comfort (and fan/space heater to give you even more options!). View the sunset from the private outdoor seating area. The perfect place to unwind after a day of adventure on the trails, or after exploring the cultural, entertainment and dining treasures of western NC.

Note: Some utilities/systems are accessed through the apartment: the water heater and furnace in the kitchen, and electrical panel and water valve in the living room. Generally we won't need access to these during your stay, but in the event of an emergency/outage of any of these, we will let you know before we enter (if you're out and about, we'll text you). Both the kitchen and the foyer have adjoining doors to our garage, but these will be closed/locked and we'll use other entrances to that space.

Where you’ll be

Black Mountain, North Carolina, United States

We're in a mixed, older neighborhood just off one of Black Mountain's main roads and a few blocks north of beautiful Lake Tomahawk, where you can enjoy walking/running, fishing or just reveling in nature. The village of Black Mountain is just beyond the lake, with quaint shops, dining, breweries and more.

We are on a glide path after decades-long careers in healthcare administration. I am a writer and consultant and also work in medical education; my husband is an instructor at our local community college and does some private consulting from his office in a retro camper and/or our adjacent treehouse. We're parents to three young adult kids, the youngest of whom is a college freshman. We all share off-beat humor and try to never take ourselves too seriously. We have two lively rescue dogs who have us wrapped around their little paws. In our off time you can find (at least some of) us biking and hiking the incredible mountains we call home. We love to travel, including treks around the US (favorite trip was a two-week cross-country adventure to the Grand Canyon) and a European honeymoon (favorite locale was the old walled city of St. Malo on the coast of France). We love all that WNC offers - the arts and culture vibe of downtown Asheville, the food and brewery scene, the small-town charm of our home base, the cool mountain air, and the friends we've gathered across the years. We're ready to welcome you to our little private guest suite that's just minutes away from the finest adventures WNC has to offer.

During your stay

We'll program keypad locks just for you prior to arrival. Text us with any requests before or during your stay. You'll have dedicated parking near your private entrance, and can interact with us as much or as little as you choose. We're year-round residents and often use the deck above, so you'll surely see/hear us around outside; we also have two boisterous dogs - they won't be in your space, but you'll definitely see and hear them sometimes! BONUS: One host is an avid cyclist and happy to advise on some spectacular mountain- or road bike rides nearby; the other host can suggest dining, entertainment and cultural excursions.
