Gorgeous retreat on 22 acres between Burlington and Middlebury. Magical in all seasons, it was built as an artist's studio in a meadow bordered by woods and a creek. The humble exterior keeps its secrets. Inside, a soaring cathedral ceiling and back wall of windows frame a unique space: artistic, rustic, beautiful, and very comfy.

The space
One large, 2-story room with two double beds: a bed on the main floor with a firm mattress, and a comfy futon on the sleeping loft. There's a well-equipped kitchen perfect for making romantic dinners, with an under-the-counter fridge and commercial range installed in Spring 2016. There are both electric and drip coffee set-ups, and a toaster. No microwave. A large dining table (made by a local furniture maker from local wood) for the amazing dinners you'll make, or to spread out your work and find inspiration. The center of the space holds a comfy "living room" area to hang out in; the couch can also serve as a bed for 1. The cozy bedroom corner on the main floor and the futon on the sleeping loft make for dreamy night sleeps, both have fans and windows to stay cool in the summer. There is a window AC for hot spells. The recently renovated bathroom has an antique claw-foot tub, with a removable plank "desk" for your book and glass of wine. There is a radio & CD player, and iPod/Phone hook-up, wireless internet, and a land line.

As you can see from the reviews, it's a very special place, intimate in size but expansive in feel, because of the cathedral ceiling and wall of windows with a view onto the meadow, creek, and sunset. It's a beautiful artistic/rustic interior, quirky, with a high level of comfort, many lovely rugs, and a lot of art. Perfect for an active vacation, a romantic get-away, or a creative/spiritual/rejuvenating retreat.

Please note: It's country living, and there is wildlife in the area. You may see snakes, mice, spiders, ants, bees, ticks, deer, and even a bear. It is important to store all food in the fridge or in the plastic container near the back door. If you leave food out on the counter, it will attract mice and ants. There is usually tick spray in the house, as well as information on how to remove them. You may well not experience any of the above!

Great natural beauty with an intimate scale. Covered bridges, rolling hills, swimming holes, x-country ski trails, fresh eggs for sale across the road. A vibrant creek (actually a small river) borders the land with easy access for wading, swimming, and fishing. The neighborhood (accessible by car) also has cafés, restaurants, bakeries, markets, hardware, yoga . . . pretty much anything you'll need. Two special places nearby are Pizza on Earth and Philo Ridge Farm, both with seasonal hours.
