Nestled on a private lot, the Hilltop House offers a sustainable, green getaway for guests who want a comfortable retreat from the stresses of everyday life. The Hilltop House is a great respite from city life and boasts ample space both inside and outside where you can feel immersed in nature, but also close to Ithaca's sights and sounds.

The space
The Hilltop House has two bedrooms with queen beds and two sleeper sofas, one in the main living area and one located in a separate den. There are two bathrooms with their own showers located on opposite ends of the home.

The main living area is surrounded by a 1,200 square foot deck which is cantilevered out over the valley with beautiful rural views. The Hilltop House also features a large tree-lined front yard and plenty of green space off of the private driveway.

There is a large well equipped kitchen with a stove, a full-sized refrigerator, and two ovens! Beside the kitchen is a dining area with seating for four, in addition to a large stone dining table on the porch which seats 6. Just off of the kitchen is a laundry room with a washer and dryer.

In the evenings and during the colder months, guests and their furry friends love kicking back in the living room in front of the wood stove while enjoying the view of the valley through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The Hilltop House has some unique features and naturally crafted finishes. Throughout the home guests will find original details such as a wooden post with an artisan welded top that provides ambient lighting in the living room. We find these one-of-a-kind details to be part of it’s charm. We hope that you enjoy your stay with us.

We are in the Ellis Hollow neighborhood, two miles southeast of the Ithaca City Limits and close to Cornell. We are on over eleven acres in a quiet residential neighborhood which has grown up on a reclaimed stone quarry over the last forty years. You can enjoy a rural hike by just going 'around the block' - a 40 to 50 minute hike up the hill on Quarry Road, over Snyder Hill Road (with views of open meadows) to Genung Road (a beautiful wooded walk down the hill) and finish up with a quick walk along the sometimes fairly busy Ellis Hollow Road back to Quarry Road.

Sapsucker Woods Laboratory of Ornithology is nearby as is the East Hill Shopping Plaza which has a good bagel shop/deli, Collegetown Bagel and Appitizers, a locally owned grocery store, a liquor store, a laundromat and a small gym. A pharmacy and Agave Restaurant are just around the corner from the East Hill Plaza. Let us know if you'd like a coupon for a discount or free dessert at Agave - we recommend it!

Buzz has enjoyed designing and building the spaces at the Stone Quarry House. He owned a stone quarry for many years, ran a stone setting business and is a stone setting consultant.
Nancy's background is in Clinical Social Work, but her current focus is running the Stone Quarry House, living more sustainably, eating locally and in season and cooking from scratch.

When at home, we enjoy eating good food, messing around the property, opera for Nancy and golf for Buzz, and in the evening watching a series on iTunes or Netflix without having to wait from week to week! We also enjoy hosting guests, and when we can get away, we enjoy traveling to meet people, get ideas, see art and architecture, and cooking and eating good real food.

We may greet guests when they arrive, but we are pretty informal, and we make it easy to settle in even if we aren't here to greet you. We live on the property, which is fenced and gated, so you can be confident that you will be safe and secure throughout your stay. We will give you our cell phone numbers, so we can help out or answer any question, night or day. On the rare times we are away, we have a manager living locally who will be available to assist if needed. We love the area; Buzz was born here and Nancy has lived here for 35 years, so we are happy to answer questions about the best waterfall walks, restaurants, or anything else that might be interesting to you.
