The Diplomat Room is clean, safe, secure and very comfortable, even by Western standards. It has a gigantic king-sized bed, but we can add an additional bed in case you want to keep more guests in the room. The bathroom is spacious and the shower has a delightful rain-style head with hot water. The ensuite balcony looks over the sprawling Lalibela valley, with clear skies allowing you to view further that 100 kilometers. The Diplomat Room is cleaned every day, unless you prefer it not to be.

Welcome to the Lalibela Diplomat Room :)
Our goal at EthioLocal Homestay is to provide you with the most comfortable, most authentic experience Ethiopia has to offer.
You can enjoy breakfast and cooking lessons in our traditional outdoor dining room, witness the sunset or sunrise from our 3rd floor terrace or relax in your suite and enjoy the view. It is our pleasure to answer all of your questions about our culture and to share our happiness with yours.
For the equivalent of 1 or 2 USD, you can easily find a tuktuk (called a "bajaj" in local language) to take you to Lalibela old town, where the famous rock-hewn churches can be explored. It is also possible to walk to the church district, which is what most of the locals do.
Incredible hiking on the mountains is just steps away and many restaurants are also within walking distance. As often as is convenient, though, we would be happy to dine with you together. We can introduce you to our traditional food as well as prepare for you your favorites from home. We are happy to serve you breakfast every morning, free of charge, in our traditional outdoor dining area.
We can help you with all aspects of your stay, from arranging a tour with a qualified guide (for churches or trekking or anything else) to getting a local SIM card. If there is something you desire that is not listed here, please ask and we will do our best to arrange it.
For 100 birr (the equivalent of roughly 3USD, paid directly to the driver) we can have a taxi waiting for you at Lalibela airport.
Our cooking classes take place in our traditional outdoor kitchen and dining area. Here, you can learn how to make injera (Ethiopian bread) and how to prepare and spice vegetables and meat in the same way Ethiopians have done a thousand of years. And the best part: at the end of your learning experience, you get to feast on your culinary masterpieces! The cost for cooking classes is a reasonable 20 USD per person.
