Where you’ll be

Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland

Kinsale is the Gateway to the Wild Atlantic Way --- a tourism trail of 2500 km of the west of Ireland from the South to the North (or visa versa). So, it makes a great place to begin or end your journey.

Locally you will find a number of attractions –
• Kinsale Walking Tour for a historical perspective
• a comical Ghost tour departing from the Tap Tavern
• scenic harbour cruise (in season)
• the waterside Scilly walk out to Charles Fort
• James Fort and the Dock Beach across the water from the cottage
• 9/11 Garden of Remembrance
• Black's Brewery and Distillery tour or Kinsale Mead Tour
• For stunning views and an excellent historical perspective of the area, the Lusitania and Old Head Signal Tower Museum.
• If you're a serious golfer....you CANNOT miss golfing the Old Head of Kinsale, one of Ireland's premier courses (advance tee times required).
• Surfing/Wind-surfing at Garrettstown Beach

Within 30 - 45 minutes driving time:
• Cork City
• Blarney Castle
• Cobh Heritage Centre
• Titanic Experience and Titanic Trail Walking Tour
• Clonakilty and the Michael Collins House & Museum

Further afield:
• Mizen Head, the most south-westerly part of Ireland (AMAZING views...wear good walking shoes, and expect stair climbing)
• Gougane Barra - home to St. Finbar's Oratory and a national forest park
• the maritime village of Baltimore and the ferries across to Sherkin Island and Cape Clear
• Lough Hyne - For an unforgettable experience, try kayaking at night here with Atlantic Sea Kayaking on one of their Moonlight Starlight tours.

As a Chicago-based Irish travel specialist of 26+ years, I found myself returning time and again to Kinsale. During one of my many stays in the town, my path crossed that of Con O'Donovan's, in 2016. We were married in Kinsale in 2017. On HIS travels to Chicago, Con discovered HE loved Chicago. So, with that in mind, we knew we were destined to be a bicontinental couple, dividing our time between the two places we love. We wanted to share that love of Kinsale with others, so we looked for a place that had the things we wanted and wouldn't change ---- a wonderful view and close proximity to town --- and gave us the opportunity to remodel to suit our taste. The end result we feel, is a cosy, warm, welcoming home built for us to host guests who appreciate all it---and Kinsale---has to offer.
