Experience the patchwork of history that makes up this authentic Kiwi Bach at the back of our family home. Cosy and comfortable, yet rough and ready, with a countryside feel. Curl up on the sofa and relax, enjoy breakfast in the sunshine or paddle in the stream. You could finish the day making woodfired pizzas or head to the Springfield Pub to enjoy a hearty meal and mingle with the locals. Just next door to native bush and stunning mountains, there is plenty to enjoy during your stay.

The space
THE SPACE

This quirky bach is located in the country town of Springfield, at the foot of the Southern Alps. The perfect place to break up a long drive or to linger for a day or two and take in country life. You will enjoy peace and quiet with a mountain glimpse in our authentic Kiwi home. A space built over time, different stories make up the mish-mash of different materials you will find inside and out.

We have kept this authentic charm, while making sure you have everything you need to relax. The bunk beds in the main living area have a lower queen sized bed and upper single - perfect for solo travellers, couples or a family with one child. There are additional mattresses available either in the den-like loft space or on the lounge floor, for slightly larger families. We have blankets and an electric heater to keep you warm.

The kitchen is equipped with fridge, microwave oven, two-ring electric hob, pans, crockery and cutlery. So you can prepare simple meals and keep your drinks cold!

A few steps from the main house, you will find our rustic 'outhouse' style bathroom. Enjoy a hot bath or shower while listening to the birds or even the rain tapping on the tin roof.

In the garden, you can sit out and take in some country air next to the stream at the back of the property. A good place to cool off on a hot day with a paddle or even a quick dip!

By staying in the Kiwi Bach, you will get a sense of the history of this unique place which has been home to - a dressage arena, Swiss candlestick maker (spot the pieces of colourful wax scattered about the yard like hundreds and thousands!), a cellist and his daughter and most recently a family with three children; who loved tucking themselves into the rafters for a good night's sleep. We invite you to connect with your creativity and leave your mark on this space. Get creative on our hallway walls, plant a flower, write, sing, dance and enjoy your stay.

Where you’ll be

Springfield, Canterbury, New Zealand

Springfield is a farming community on the 'Great Alpine Highway'. Located at the base of the Southern Alps in the Selwyn District of Canterbury, the area features 4,000 lakes, rivers and streams. Round the corner in Kowai Bush; you'll find native NZ flora including the striking black beech trees that produce our local beechwood honey and down the road, the beautiful Waimakariri Gorge. A short drive into the mountains and there are various walking tracks, the rugged ski fields of the Craigieburn range, the mesmerising Castle Hill rocks and Cave Stream, 600m of gushing water that you can walk through....just make sure you take some warm clothes!

See the main sights or venture slightly off the path well-travelled path and you'll see why we love living here.

Hi, I'm Jase; a genuine Kiwi, born and bred in the NZ countryside at the foot of the Southern Alps. I have a passion for the mountains and the outdoors - exploring on skis or a mountain bike. I am lucky to have made my passion my work; with over 20 years experience running my own adventure tourism and accommodation business, to help people experience this amazing country and have shared my home with guests of all ages from across the globe. My place is a genuine Kiwi home, which I share with my partner and three children. We look forward to giving you a warm welcome.
