The space
"It's the real Costa Rica. A perfect alternative to staying at some lifeless hotel."

Why stay in someone's spare room or a hotel by the airport when you can experience Costa Rica like a local by staying in a private park setting slurping coffee from one of the most exclusive coffee growing regions in the world!

Enjoy our bush-to-cup coffee while strolling through a working boutique coffee ranch. Listen to birds chirp and the sound of a gentle river in our 2-acre meditation garden set in a coffee plantation with panoramic views of Irazu Volcano, the Tres Marias mountains of Braulio Carrillo National Park, as well as the city lights of San Jose. Enjoy our custom lookout platform with a 360-degree view.

Your Full Kitchen studio has a custom-made Danto bedroom set with a loft. A great modern kitchen with hardwood bar and work desk. Kitchen cabinetry made of Laurel wood and cedar storage cabinets. The bathroom feature hardwood Danto counter top and shelving and a modern walk-in shower with plenty of hot water. A sliding glass door to a private enclosed patio provides added space and privacy.

Staying with us you can pick up a copy of Phil Baker's Costa Rica Now / Travel Live and Own in Paradise. 400 pages plus and perfect for those interested in relocating to Costa Rica.

Location ~ ~ We are located in the beautiful coffee hills of San Isidro de Heredia. Our neighborhood is one of the finest in Costa Rica with a mix of ex-patriots and Costa Ricans living on large estates and smaller homes. We are 30 minutes from the San Jose airport and the Museums of San Jose. Downtown Heredia with luxury malls and high-end restaurants is six miles away. Poas, Irazu and Barva volcanoes are an easy day trip away.

Village of San Isidro ~ ~ A $2 taxi ride away is the village of San Isidro with banks, a large supermarket with covered parking, restaurants and coffee shops bakeries and a beautiful Sunday morning farmer's market along with one of the most majestic churches in Costa Rica.

Coffee ~ ~ A rare treat - coffee harvested and dried in a truly artisanal old-world style. Our coffee fruit is sun dried for 100 days. Not sent to a mill to be strip washed and dried in mechanical dryers and later sent for processing in an automated warehouse. We pay our pickers double to harvest our coffee fruit at the peak of ripeness. The natural drying process triples production costs but leaves the raw beans coated with honey ready for roasting.

Restaurants ~ ~ A secret spot. Only a 5-minute ride away is Los Potreros with its city light views and a large variety of fantastic local dishes with generous portions at reasonable prices. Excellent food and good service. Another secret spot only ten minutes away is Sibu Chocolates where you can lunch and sample chocolate truffles made from Caribbean cocoa. They offer a lunch-included tour. Yet another secret spot is a romantic 12-table restaurant located in a quaint Costa Rican wooden home featuring excellent food and a wine list. A date night favorite. Breakfasts are enjoyed either in a rustic restaurant oozing with ambience and views with local flavorful food at inexpensive prices, or in a bakery coffee shop in front of the church and bus stop. Perfect for watching the local living daily life. Strong coffee, fast service, make it an excellent choice for grabbing a quick breakfast bite on the way to your daily adventure.

Transportation ~ ~ Our neighborhood Uber driver Jose takes you to your destination, wait for you there and then bring you home. Other Uber drivers do not do that. A local taxi to San Isidro is only $2 and arrive in minutes. Buses leave every 15 minutes to Heredia and San Jose, from where you can board direct buses to all parts of Costa Rica. The intentional airport is 30 minutes away.

Attractions ~ ~ La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Rain Forest Adventure zip lines are both easily doable day trips as well as Doka Estates Coffee Tour and Poas Volcano National Park and Braulio Carrillo National Park.

Where you’ll be

Concepción de San Isidro, Heredia, Costa Rica

Our neighborhood is a mix of ex-patriots and Costa Ricans living on large estates and smaller homes. Here you can walk to the boundaries of a national park and if lucky you can see white face monkeys. The northeast part of the central valley is the first area to receive the prevailing Caribbean winds purified by miles of Braulio Carrillo National Park cloud forests bordering our neighborhood. Or stroll through the farmer's market in front of a historic church. We are minutes away from small romantic restaurants, large family restaurants with great views and a trendy Italian eatery featuring jazz nights. It's the real Costa Rica the way you would want to live it.

Hi I’m Phil. They call me Diego here in Costa Rica. I’m from San Diego, a native Californian, domestic and international Real Estate investor, who arrived in Costa Rica in 1990. My daughter Kalina and I own a beautiful 100-acre vineyard property in Temecula, and now a boutique coffee ranch in one of the most beautiful areas of Coffee Country Costa Rica. Our micro mill coffee farm processes coffee beans naturally by sun drying the coffee fruit. Running an Airbnb to meet travelers from many cultures, we serve them with tastefully decorated rooms, hot showers and comfortable beds. I write self-help titles with a kung fu slant, and little-by-little built our coffee ranch from an abandoned coffee field with just a master carpenter, a crew and my sketch pad. Our gardens are a work of love and nature. Beautiful views abound! Meditation is a primary activity learned from two decades in Self Realization Fellowship. Come find yourself on one of our many meditation benches slurping bush to cup coffee while overlooking a waterfall among coffee plants, old growth cypress hedges, flower and fruits. As the author of Costa Rica Now / Travel Live and Own in Paradise, with decades of in-country experience, I’ll help you get the MOST OUT OF YOUR VACATION by recommending where to visit according to what you want to do, and the time of the year. Pura Vida!!! See you in Costa Rica!!!
