A newly refurbished studio apartment in the heart of Ipanema and just two blocks from the beach. Designed by renowned Brazilian architect Sandra Brandão, it has all the comforts of a top quality hotel room with the privacy of home.

The space
Refurbished Contemporary Studio. The apartment is fully equipped with air-conditioning, wi-fi internet connection, cable tv, safe and a kitchen and bathroom designed in carrara and nero marquina marble.

PLEASE NOTE that the rate is inclusive of everything except for electricity which is charged separately. Brazilian electricity prices have increased by 75% since November 2014 and, to avoid having to increase our rates accordingly, we feel the fairest way is to keep it separate.

We take a meter reading on check-in and on check-out and charge exactly the value per KW/h as charged by the energy company LIGHT. Air-conditioning units are what use the most energy, so we would encourage guests to switch them off when they are out of the apartment.

Brazilian electricity prices are among the highest in the world (50% higher than the US average) but, with normal use, guests can expect to pay around R$20 (twenty Brazilian reals) per day in the summer. In the winter, if the amount is very low (less than R$30) we will usually waive payment.

Where you’ll be

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This is a lovely little corner of Ipanema.

The building is on Rua Visconde de Pirajá on the corner with Rua Garcia D'Avila. Garcia is the swish street of Rio, if you have money to spend. It's where you'll find Cartier, Luis Vuitton, H Stern, the jeweller, Nike, among other international labels.

But there's also a great bakery and grocery store, KiKarnes, just opposite - if you like coconut, I highly recommend their "quejadinha" (like macaroons).

It's just one block from Praça Nossa Senhora da Paz, where they are building a metro station.

The square is home to my favourite market of all - the fruit and veg market on a Friday morning. See how many fruit and veg you can find that you've never seen before: jabuticaba, piranga, cajú, cajá, jaca, chuchu, inhame.

The neighbourhood has a great village feel to it. All along Visconde de Pirajá in the direction of Praça General Osório, there are shops, cafés and juice bars.

Praça General Osório is the heart of Ipanema. It's where the metro is.

On the nrner of the square nearest the beach and Garcia, you will find an Amazonian restaurant and walking along that side are other bars and pizza restaurants.
There is a juice and snack bar (called Big Nectar) on the far corner of the square where the metro station is. On the opposite corner is the bakery/café called Terzetto, a popular place for breakfast.

All round the square, you'll see cafés, bars, restaurants, including the kilo restaurant, Fazendola. (A kilo restaurant is one where you pay for the weight of your food - a popular concept in Rio.)

There's also the churrascaria Carretão where you pay as fixed price and eat all the meat you want. The buffet of salads and pasta is actually not too bad for vegetarians although worth asking to have a look before you commit your money.

If it takes your fancy, there is even an Irish "pub" called Shenanigans which always seems to be packed. Personally, I prefer the kiosks on the beach but probably a good rainy evening option.

The square is also has a fruit and veg market on a Tuesday morning.
Oh yes, and of course it hosts the Sunday "hippie market" too. ;)
