A comfortable country escape located 4km’s up the Pahiatua Track. Approximately 8-10 minute drive to the outskirts of town with Massey University, the IPU Tertiary Institute and to our local Summerhill shopping centre with a supermarket, takeaways, laundry, café’s and restaurants. Palmerston North's CBD is about 13 km's.
Your private entrance leads to a guest suite attached to our house. Included is a lounge, separate bedroom, bathroom and a kitchenette with basic supplies for preparing meals

The space
Enjoy the sound of birds, the creek, rustle of trees and fresh air. A space where you can escape the hustle of the city.
Home made bread, free-range eggs when available, cereals, milk, fruit and spreads for breakfasts are supplied.
There is a deck with a BBQ for your use in a sheltered courtyard surrounded by a rural outlook of paddocks, large trees and developing gardens.
We have two very friendly goats, Alfie and Hopps, Bella the cat who loves to follow you when exploring and friendly chooks.
We do have continuous internet access and cellphone coverage is available. Due to our location, this can be unreliable occasionally.
We are a retired couple. George is well travelled but is now happy collecting gramophones and enjoying his workshop working as a furniture maker. I am a professional artist, photographer and illustrator.

Where you’ll be

Aokautere, Manawatu-Wanganui, New Zealand

Palmerston North has numerous restaurants and food outlets ranging from fine dining like Nero’s and Aberdeen, cafe’s including Cafe Zest and Brie Cafe to many takeaway outlets including our local “Simply the Best takeaway” in the Summerhill shopping center. For local music, good food and the occasional shindig, venues like the Celtic Inn can be a lot of fun.

As you drive into town, on the left is the Victoria Esplanade comprising of 19 hectares with gardens, rose gardens, bird aviaries, nature trails and walks, a junior bike safety park and duck pond, free barbeque facilities and children’s paddling pool and playgrounds. The on-site café offers a place to have a break and relax in green park surroundings. The miniature railway consisting of 2,150 metres of main line offering rides on weekends and holidays for a small fee. Palmerston Norths Central Energy Trust Wildbase Recovery provides shelter and world-class care for native wildlife to rehabilitate after treatment at Massey University’s Wildbase Hospital is now open the the public.
Next to the Victoria Esplanade is the Lido Aquatic Center. Many wonderful days have been spent in this area or at our local beaches like Foxton and Himatangi with family and friends enjoying picnics or ordering pizza's in the park.
One of our favourite jaunts is a drive up Pohangina Valley stopping in Ashhurst for takeaways, eating them on one of the riverbanks, and then heading up the valley through the beautiful Totora Reserve to see the glow worms.

Free off street parking is available with access to your rooms via a short board-walk passing our goats who will probably also greet you as you walk to your own entrance.
We will sometimes be here to share a meal and a chat, or appreciate your need for space and privacy if you wish.

Note. I would appreciate if you could leave the rooms as tidy as you found them with the exception of the beds as I will be washing the bedding anyway.
Please let us know when you would like to check in. Checkout is by 11am, although this can be flexilble depending on bookings.
