The space
Natural light is everywhere: floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding-glass doors onto private balconies from each bedroom. The house sits on top of a hill at 1,250 ft, so you can watch the sun rise in the east and set in the west--the house has a 360 degree, wrap-around deck, with patio table, umbrella, and Adirondack chairs. The West-Coast architect-designed home was planned for casual leisure: up-scale but not formal.

The Fulford Harbour room has a Queen bed, and a floor-to-ceiling picture window overlooking Fulford Harbor, islands and mountains, with sliding-glass door opening to a private deck. Full ensuite bathroom with tub and shower

Where you’ll be

Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada

The house sits on a hill-top at an elevation of 1,250 feet, and is adjacent to Mt. Maxwell Provincial Park. The area is ideal for hiking, and the park has miles of well-marked walking trails. However, the area is hilly, and on both our property and in the park are some steep slopes and uneven terrain, so proper care must be taken, as on any hilly, forested land.

The house is on 40 acres in a private, rural part of Salt Spring Island, but only 15 minutes drive to the town of Ganges. It has spectacular 180º views of the southern Gulf Islands, the Burgoyne Valley, Fulford Harbor, the Coast Mountains, Mt. Baker, and the Olympic Range. Only two or three other properties on Salt Spring Island enjoy such a panoramic view.

Salt Spring is known for its waterfront and ocean-view homes, artistic community, organic farms, and hillside vineyards. Since the island has over 10,000 residents (up to 20,000 in the summer), Ganges Village is self-sufficient, with normal town services, including restaurants, supermarkets, gas-stations, a 65-bed hospital, and various other shops and amenities.
The island enjoys a mild, temperate climate. It’s mountainous, with protected parks that offer some of the most outstanding scenery in the world.

Nature is enjoyed everywhere: sailing, kayaking, whale-watching, golfing, swimming in the island's 11 lakes and along its 80 miles of beaches, or just hiking over trails in virgin forests where the deer are tame, the air is clear, the silence deep.
