Riverbank House is a fine Georgian property, built on the banks of the River Bandon, with a long history of hospitality - it has been a fishing lodge, hotel, restaurant, and now a lovingly restored Boutique B&B. The house has large, airy rooms with amazing views over the river and the abundant wildlife. Guests have exclusive access to the sitting room, dining area and a cinema room. The well tended gardens and quayside are a great place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening.

The space
Riverbank House was built by coal importer, Robert Edward, who made a profitable enterprise of importing coal to the adjoining quayside and exporting to the local towns. In the mid 1900's RAF pilot Flt.Lt. George H. Allison took ownership and opened as Riverbank Hotel specialising in shooting and fishing trips. Since then it's been mainly a family home and most recently it's been lovingly restored to it's former glory.

The bedroom with en-suite bathroom is furnished and decorated to provide a tranquil space. From the window seat, there are views over the front garden and river. Binoculars are provided for your use during your stay (you will definitely want to take a closer look at some of the ducks antics!). The bright, clean bathroom has a full sized bath with power shower over.

The grounds are bordered by both the River Bandon and a pretty stream and include a walled garden, raised vegetable garden, meadow, woodland and an imposing Iron Age cliff fort. The cliff fort is a magical place and the views from the top are wonderful. Wildlife is abundant and our favourites are the otters and the kingfishers. It's a great place to relax in tranquil settings, but if you're feeling competitive, there is croquet or boules available on the front lawn!

We offer Continental breakfast to all guests, served between 7.00am and 10.00am.

For dinner, we can recommend many local restaurants, but we are also happy to provide glasses, plates and cutlery if you would like to bring something back to the dining room.

Guest access
Guests have exclusive use of the sitting room, dining area and a small cinema room and front patio. Guests are also welcome to tour the well tended gardens and raised vegetable garden. We also have an Iron age Cliff fort in the grounds to which, upon request, we can provide escorted access. The views from the top of the fort are wonderful.

Location

Inishannon, County Cork, Ireland

Innishannon is a lovely town, on the banks of the River Bandon. We have a small supermarket, bars, farm shop selling local produce (and offering pizza's in the evening), pharmacy, a post office and a great cafe. Close by, we have a market town called Bandon, 10 minutes drive away. A great place to shop and with numerous restaurants.

A little further (but within a 25 minutes drive) is Kinsale, a great sailing town full of bars, restaurants, galleries and shops, and of course, Cork City itself, which offers more shopping and the English Market.

Further West, but an easy drive, you'll find Clonakilty, a historic town famous for it's links to Michael Collins, and also Skibbereen and Bantry, two more lovely towns, full of character. The coastline of this area is stunning, with small hidden beaches and bays just waiting to be discovered, and little fishing towns with great bars and restaurants around every corner.
