The Beach House in Kailua is a light, breezy, open space, "Hawaiian Style" home with 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, fully stocked kitchen, pantry, living-dining rooms, den, pool, lanai, and a lush backyard filled with bird song. Private access to spectacular Kailua Beach in a neighborly neighborhood. There is ample storage, 2 bikes, 4 surfboards, and a kayak. The backyard opens to the Kawainui canal for sunrise and sunset cocktails. Kailua is the place to relax peacefully and safely self-isolate.

The space
This is a private home in a quiet, safe, local neighborhood. This is NOT a place for parties or large gatherings. You will have the house to yourselves. Please note that I love my 'aina and try to live as lightly on this earth as is humanly possible. Please note that the house does not have air-conditioning, but every room has a ceiling fan and large windows.

I am a New York transplant (dis-occupying Wall Street) in 2008 and joining Teach for America to teach high school math in inner-city public schools. I am now in my fifteenth year of teaching between my home state of Hawaii, and my adopted homes in New York City and New Orleans. On school days I am gone by 6 am and generally not back until 5 pm. I either work or travel most weekends. I am a low key and low touch host- but promise to be as accommodating as possible. I try to live as simply and lightly on this earth as possible and hope that my guests will do the same. My home is in a wonderful location, clean, comfortable, and quiet but updated, upscale or fancy. After a decade in the hospitality business (which supports teaching in high-need public schools) I am reasonably experienced. In the spirit of constant learning, I welcome your constructive feedback. Let me know what you need and I will do my best to make it happen. If you have any interest in public education, I would be happy to have you visit a class or two.

During your stay

As a high school teacher, I generally leave the house at 6 am and do not return until 4 pm. I am traveling for most of the summer and you are likely to have the place to yourself for most of your stay. You have 3 bedrooms and a bathroom all to yourselves. I am always just a call or text away.
