Private ensuite dorm room (with one double bed with a bunk on top and a second normal bunk bed) within Elterwater Hostel, centrally located at the heart of Lakeland, and surrounded by the fells of the beautiful Langdale Valley. The bunk above the double bed is ideal for a child or small adult, and the room would work perfectly for families, so it is advertised as suitable for four adults but can accommodate up to five.

The space
This hostel is a converted barn with several recent refurbishments to bring it up to modern standards. It has a long history as a hostel, and was previously owned by the YHA. It includes 11 bedrooms with 38 beds, so there may be other guests staying, but this double room and ensuite for your private use is separated from all the other rooms which are upstairs. It's the perfect mix of everything you need, with the simplicity of getting away from it all. There is no TV here, but a comfy lounge, numerous books and board games ( covid restrictions permitting) for your enjoyment and of course the wonderful great outdoors with numerous walks from the door. Mobile telephone signal is patchy so we have installed superfast wifi for keeping in touch with your loved ones.
The shared kitchen is currently closed due to government restrictions but will be opened as soon as we are permitted to do so safely.

Guest access
Private room with private ensuite shower room, and shared living area.

There is an excellent drying room available for those that encounter wet days on the fells and a secure bike shed available for the cyclists.

Other things to note
Check-In

All guests need to book in advance and confirm they do not have any covid-19 symptoms.

Reception is open at 5pm until 9.30pm unless prior arrangements are made for a late check-in up to 10.30pm. If you arrive early please come in and make yourselves comfortable with a cup of tea from our self catering kitchen until staff arrive.

Electronic registration is now preferred, and the relevant forms will be sent to you in advance for completion – to include the names of all party members over 16.

Booking/Flexible Cancellation

Usually we require 5 days notice of any cancellation, however if the reason is suspected covid or other communicable disease we adopt a more flexible case by case approach. We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone showing signs of illness.

During your stay

Once checked in you will have access to the hostel and self catering kitchen during the day. Please respect our neighbours and other guests when entering and leaving the hostel, especially later in the evening.
Increased outdoor seating is now available, weather permitting.
You can come and go at your leisure during the day but should not admit any other visitors.
Please make use of the hand sanitisers and wash your hands regularly and be mindful to afford other guests some social distance.
Should you fall ill during your stay please immediately inform a member of staff and stay in your room to self-isolate and minimise the risk of transmission.

Catering

We offer a full catering service as an additional cost with a cooked breakfast, packed lunch and 2 course evening meal. A range of local beers and wine is available to purchase from the bar. We encourage you to book evening meals in advance but by 6pm on the day at the latest and breakfast and packed lunches can be booked up to 7.30pm the previous evening.

Rooms, Bedding and Bathrooms

Rooms are booked as private rooms to individuals, couples, families and groups. Toilets/washroom & showers are generally shared, the exception being the en-suite (Room 2) which has its own facilities.

Clean bedding is provided for you to make your own beds (please do not bring your own bedding). After your stay we ask that you strip the bed, and leave the bedding in the baskets provided. Bedding is cleaned professionally off-site at 72oC.

Coronavirus Precautions:

While all legal restrictions have been removed, Elterwater Hostel has decided to retain some precautions in order to protect our staff, guests and the business.

We are limiting the number of guests to allow a level of social distancing. Staff will continue to wear masks when serving food and in the public areas in busy times.

Airbnb Enhanced Cleaning Protocol is adopted throughout the hostel. All shared facilities are open and available with increased ventilation. Self catering facilities are also open but we ask guests to respect others' personal space.

The staff will not enter your room for the duration of your stay, unless specifically requested to do so.

Common Sense

Best practice is still to wash your hands regularly with soap and hot water for a minimum of 20 seconds.
Avoid touching your face, wear a face covering where appropriate.
Maintain social distancing.
Please do not visit the hostel if you have symptoms of coronavirus or have been in contact with anyone who has symptoms.

Location

Elterwater, England, United Kingdom

The Langdale Valley is a wonderful part of the Lake District with countless fells, mountains, walks and bike rides right on your doorstep. The Britannia Pub is less than 50 meters down the road, or the slightly posher Eltermere Inn is even closer in the other direction. We are nearby to Ambleside and Grasmere and not too far from the famous Lake Windermere. Whether you are here for the great outdoors, or a more touristy trip we are in a great location to base yourself. The Beatrix Potter attraction is a 20 minute drive, and the next door village of Chapel Stile with a local shop is a 15 minute walk along a lovely river. There is endless choice of places to go. A few of our favourites would be Stickle Tarn, Loughrigg Fell, Lingmore Fell, and the Cathedral Caves. The last three of these you can walk straight from the hostel front door.
