Quiet property surrounded by dunes with shared access to secluded sand dune and private beach that are just outside of the City of South Haven.

The space
The Sandbox Beach House is a secluded dune getaway for those seeking the solitude, adventure, and unique experience no other home can offer. A newer Lake Michigan cottage nestled into 26 acres of land-locked critical dunes that are only accessible by boat and houses in the subdivision. Hike the path to the crest of the tallest dune towering nearly 200 ft above Lake Michigan and experience the best sunset view on the lake.

If relaxation is your goal, then bring your book to read in front of the wood fireplace, made with local Michigan stones, or sit out on the large deck surrounded by the colossal dunes.

Located only 5 minutes drive from the hustle bustle of South Haven or a 15 minute bike ride on the newly paved Van Buren Trail.

Take morning & evening strolls or swim along one of our most beautiful shorelines of Michigan. Numerous walking trails connect the subdivision to 400+ acre Van Buren State Park and North Point County Park. Additional beach access and walking trails at Pilgrim Haven Park less than 1 mile away.

The Sandbox Beach House is part of a subdivision with private beach access and sand dunes. These dunes are high, steep, and can be difficult for some people to climb, but the wild beach offers fantastic views and unmatched seclusion to those who can make the hike. The dunes are protected by the EGLE and you are required to stay on designated trails. Do not walk in the grass or play in the blowout areas.

The seasonal stairs in the backyard are the easiest and fastest way to access the beach. Once over the dune, head down and towards the right (stay off grass) to connect with main trail. Please do not play on the exposed sand because this area is problematic erosion area called a blowout that causes issues in the park.

Please be aware that the steps are only temporary and made from landscaping timbers held in place by three pieces of two foot long rebar. We have not had any issues, but there is a risk that the timber could pull out and expose the rebar or your foot could slide under the steps and become caught. Risk of injury is increased by jumping on the steps or running down the steps. The stairs are designed for climbing up only. Go down the bare sand along the side of the steps. The steps are available May to October and are taken out over the winter so that they are not completely buried by sand. We do not inspect the stairs before each guest arrives, so please let us know if there are issues. If you are not comfortable taking the stairs, then there is a loose sandy trail that starts at the end of Grand Blvd two blocks north of the property.

Van Buren State Park and Pilgrim Beach are both less than 1 mile away and offer easier access to a better beach, so consider bringing your bikes to ride to those beaches if you are unsure about summiting the dunes.
