Where you’ll be

Puducherry, India

St Theresa Road is residential surrounded by new builds as well as old style, traditional Tamil houses. There is a great bakery a minute from the apartment and supermarkets within 5 minutes. The street is located in the shopping district of old Pondicherry with the Grand Bazaar on one side and the Petit Bazaar on the other side (each no more than a 10 minute walk from St Theresa Road. The Grand Bazaar in particular is a warren of alleyways full of little shops selling household goods, fruits, vegetables and flowers. There is a fish market on one side which is a sight to see with all sorts of fresh fish and seafood being sold. It is a paradise for not only shoppers but for those photographers among you who want to capture the local colours.

The area also has some great and inexpensive local eateries, including Surguru on Mission Street, a popular eating place for both locals, expats and tourists, which provides delicious South Indian vegetarian food at very reasonable prices.

The White Town (the old colonial part of Pondicherry) is within a 10 minutes walk from St Theresa Road where you will find beautiful colonial buildings which take you back to colonial times and gives you an impression of being in Southern France.

The beach is just the other side of White Town, with a beautiful promenade where you can do your morning walk, whilst admiring the sunrise or take a gentle early evening stroll, listening to the waves and feeling the gentle breeze.

We live in London but have an apartment in Pondicherry, which we use when we come to India every couple of years or so. Pondicherry is where my father was born and grew up and from where his family hails.

London is where I live and work, although I am Parisian born. After many years in the corporate world, I decided to follow my passion for art.

I went to art school to get a more formal art training and I now have an art studio in partnership with 2 other artists, based in West London. We teach art to adults and children in all sorts of 2 D medium from oil, watercolour, acrylic, to pastel, graphite and colour pencils and ink and even have students doing collages with all sorts of materials.

I am also a working artist and you can see some of my work on the walls in the apartment and rooms. My work often has a cross cultural narrative based on extensive travel and familial connections to India, its colour, culture and architecture. I also like to add poignancy to my compositions through isolation and use of negative space.
