Splendid isolation! Very comfortable country cabin with its own surrounding gardens, right next door to the beauties of the Burren National Park. Ideal for restful retreat and working on creative projects. Bright and quiet, except for the song of birds, and occasional harmony of cows and sheep. Three miles from the picturesque fishing village of Kinvara, with its brightly painted shops, cafes, restaurants and traditional pubs.

The space
The Cabin is spacious for two people and their luggage (25 sq. metres, plus loft), bright with plenty of windows and a double door. There are two double beds, one is in the loft space and requires climbing up and down a ladder. The other is a sofa, which pulls out to a comfy bed. The shower has instant hot water. There is a kettle for tea and coffee making—milk provided, along with cereals for breakfast. While we did not list a kitchen as an amenity, we do have a single hob cooking ring and basic cooking utensils. There is a drying rack which lowers from the ceiling. The cabin also has a well-appointed picnic basket plus picnic rucksack, both of which guests are welcome to use for day-trips out to the beautiful Burren, wooded historical Coole Park, lovely local coastal beauty spots, etc.

Where you’ll be

Kinvarra, County Galway, Ireland

We are at the foot of the Burren National Park, a unique landscape in the world, where flowers from the Arctic, Alpines, and Mediterranean grow together. Here are ancient burial sites, stone and earthen forts, holy wells and a herd of wild goats to mention only a few features. Down a tiny lane from us is a man who leads walks in the Burren and Kinvara area generally. The Cliffs of Moher are less than an hour away, the City of Galway about 45 minutes, Yeats Tower and Lady Gregory's Coole Park 30 minutes away. The lovely village of Kinvara, with restaurants, pubs, shops, post office and Dunguaire Castle is only 10 minutes away.

Frank and Eileen had the cabin built as a music/art studio & getaway space in 2012. We are both musicians, playing mostly traditional music from US Apalachia, Ireland and Mexico. We play with various combinations/bands/friends from the culturally rich area of Kinvara.

Our combined working lives to date have included academic writing/teaching on anthropology of dance; primary school teaching; film animation; botanical illustration; and most recently regular volunteering in Greece with the refugee situation.

Frank moved from the US to Ireland in 2003. After settling in Kinvara, he discovered that his great-great grandparents had married in a neighbouring town! Eileen hails from Dublin and moved to Kinvara in 2000. We love the beautiful surrounding coastal and mountain scenery, the lively village of Kinvara and the diverse and interesting people who live here.

We have done a fair amount of travelling, and have stayed in many airbnbs. We are inspired by the ethos, the great hosts we have met and the unique properties in which we have stayed. We are now delighted to be welcoming guests ourselves.
