We're only a 15-minute walk from the Rio Maria River Trail with its waterfalls and swim holes. A short drive leads to Valle Bonito Cloud Forest.

Be sure to bring cameras and binoculars to spot toucans and mono titi monkeys!

Our peaceful setting caters well to socially distant breaks.

The space
When you arrive at the Towers at Laurel 58, you enter your own private gate and park in your own carport. Now the tower to your treetop studio beckons!

As you climb the stairs, take in the garden and look down towards the bridge over the brook which flows most of the year.

On the landing outside the studio door, there is a bistro table for enjoying calm and privacy. A cozy perch for a glass of wine, perhaps?

When you open the door and walk up the remaining winding tower stairs, the spacious 500 sq ft (45 sq meter) treetop studio greets you with its cathedral ceiling and garden views on two sides.

This is a self-catering holiday home with a functional kitchenette. You can dine inside or outside. All windows and doors are screened to let in the fresh mountain air. For added comfort, there are also ceiling fans.

The studio boasts a queen size bed and a six drawer dresser. You will find a shower, basic toiletries, towels and a hairdryer in the bathroom.

Outside, you can lounge in a hammock in the covered mosaic patio or on one of two private balconies, one in front and one in back of the studio.

Some guests like to sip their morning coffee on the front balcony looking up at ever changing Mount Picacho and listening to and watching the colorful birds.

Often you'll hear toucans, even if they are hard to spot at the top of the mango or corotu trees on the property.

The list of sightings of interesting birds at Laurel 58 includes : red legged honey creepers, rufous mot mots, yellow crowned euphonias, crested oropendolas and chachalacas.

It's like a national park, without the crowds!

During a one week stay you can take a different hike every day. Within a five minute walk from the property, you can access the 6km round trip riverside trail, stopping to admire waterfalls and dip in one of numerous swimming holes. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to see capuchin monkeys or a slow moving sloth along with morpho azul butterflies and a myriad of colorful birds!

Many guests head to Valle Bonito with its lake and trail up to the Continental Divide. Some like the challenge of scaling Cerro Picacho, at over 1,080 meters (3,000 feet). Picacho majestically towers over the whole area. It can be seen from the studio balcony and as depicted in one of the patio floor mosaics which has more than 1,000 ceramic pieces.

Others enjoy swimming at El Charco Las Doncellas with its year round waterfall and rope swing.

Nearly everyone takes a drive through the cloud and rain forests to El Valle de Anton to visit the colorful market to buy some tropical fruits and vegetables or unique gifts for people back home made by native artists.

Finally, the gated community offers a tennis court, weekday yoga classes, a gym and ping pong and pool tables as well as amazing views of the other side of the valley at Senderos Restaurant, all less than 15 minutes from the studio.

Although we frequently visit family in France and Germany, we also like traveling and exploring on our own. We enjoy hosting guests from all corners of the globe and sharing our life experiences. Aside from travel and hiking, we are opera lovers and duplicate bridge players.
