This listing is for a twin room at Chester St Backpackers, our small, homely hostel in the central city. The two beds in the room are made up and have electric blankets. We are are a long term stay hostel, set up for backpackers who are stopping in Christchurch for a while to work and save for their next stage of travel and students studying nearby. We are just down the road from Ara. You will be part of a shared house overseen by Pipi the cat.

The space
We like to think of Chester St Backpackers as a little oasis in the city. It is in a great central location but is a little world of its own with plenty of colour and quirks, a garden, a sunny verandah, Pipi the cat and recycled furniture. Free WIFI.

Chester St is a lovely quiet, tree lined street but is within easy walking distance of the city centre and nearby cafes and restaurants.

I live just outside of Christchurch with my husband and three daughters(aged 11, 9 and 5 at the time of listing in 2015) where we have a lifestyle block with a big garden, a dog, ducks and chickens and three very tame sheep. I love to travel and explore new cultures - no flashy resorts for us - but these days our travel is mostly local. We like to get away in our camper bus in NZ and love going to the Pacific Islands in winter. But mostly I'm busy running around after three girls and keeping travellers happy!

During your stay

Antony and I are in and out of the hostel and we also have backpackers who help us with the cleaning. There is usually someone there in the morning to tidy up and you can phone or text us if you need to.
