The Casa del Cenote Negro has an open floor plan with a large kitchen and dining area with plenty of space for a family gathering. There are two bedrooms, two bathrooms plus a third full sized bed (and a sofa bed if needed). There's a lakeside patio with spectacular views of the Cenote Negro, plenty of seating for outdoor meals and comfortable hammocks for lounging. The lakeside dock is large and private, an incredible place for swimming and paddling in the crystal clear water.

The space
The Casa del Cenote Negro is THE place to stay for private access to this incredible spot. The cenote is one of the main sources for fresh water in the lagunar system and the trees along its edge are habitat to a host of native birds such as snail kites, limkins and the occasional toucan.

The owners are very committed to laguna conservation efforts. There's a composting toilet on the property designed by a local company (ERMA) that is being promoted as a sustainable septic solution. A small NGO, Agua Clara Bacalar, have a office on the property as well (guests may get the opportunity to meet the small team of 2 to 3 people during weekday office hours).

I am a lover of life, of the earth and of the small adventures that happen every day. I've been blessed to live a lot of my adult life abroad, traveling and volunteering and working and finally settling in Mexico's southern Yucatan peninsula in a little piece of heaven known as Bacalar. These days I'm happily busy as a mom and online professor among my other pursuits. I love hosting world travelers, as it gives me the opportunity to feel connected to the global community.

The first, painted purple, opens both padlocks at the street (for the door and car gates), the 2nd if for both wooden doors for your house, located at the top of the stairs, and the third is for the padlock to open the gate for the dock/laguna access.
