Welcome to my mid-century home 1.5 miles outside the city on my family's homestead. It's one block from the Baker Wetlands walking/biking paths, close to shopping, sports venues, K.U. & Haskell Univ. Just 15 minutes to Baker Univ. & 10 minutes to quirky and friendly downtown Lawrence. I welcome couples, solo adventurers, female and business travelers, athletes, LGBTQ, artists, international tourists, and those who want a getaway for some peace and quiet in a tranquil country setting.

The space
My home is on my family's homestead which was established in 1854. It is my childhood home which I have returned to after living on the west coast and overseas. It's a 1960s ranch, so the rooms are not huge, but cozy and comfortable. It has original wood floors, a wood-burning fireplace, a patio for relaxation, and is surrounded by farmland. I hope that you will find my home warm and welcoming and a relaxing respite. I welcome all races, ethnicities and religions, and am LGBTQ friendly.

The guest bedroom has a queen-size bed, a full closet with full-length mirror, and a desk with a lamp and charging station. The room has a dresser, 2 nightstands with reading lamps, a small fan, a luggage rack, and a flat screen for watching Netflix. The room has 2 windows and both have blackout shades on them to ensure a peaceful night's rest. There is a lock on the door. There is also an iron and small ironing board and a yoga mat in the closet. I have a larger ironing board you can use if needed.

The guest bath is the largest in the house and has a long (6 ft) vanity - plenty of room for 2 people to share. It has a bathtub/shower with a shower head which can also turn into a hand-held shower wand and a grab bar for getting in/out. I provide bath and hand towels, washcloths, soap, shampoo, a hair dryer, and some toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, band-aids, etc.) in case you've forgotten something.

To help cut down on plastic waste, I provide Brita filtered water pitchers and glasses in the room and one in the kitchen fridge so you can have water in your room or refill your own water bottles. There is also bottled water in the bathroom and guest rooms for your convenience, and I will be happy to recycle the bottles.

The guest room has a fire extinguisher and there is also one in the kitchen and garage. There are CO2 and smoke detectors in the hallway, garage, and basement. Fire exit safety information is posted in the room, in case of an emergency.

It is a ranch house, but there are two small steps to the front door (handrail on one side) and one step to access the patio area. The driveway and entrance to the front door are flat and there's plenty of off-street parking.

Relax outside on the patio or in the yard and enjoy the sounds of birds, frogs, owls, and crickets, and perhaps you will get a glimpse of fireflies, deer, cows, wild turkeys and other wildlife. Walking trails through the wetlands are just steps away.

Where you’ll be

Lawrence, Kansas, United States

My place is close to the city but just outside of the noise and traffic. It's jut steps from the Baker Wetlands trails, so great for nature lovers and bird watchers. Easy access to K-10 and I-70; 30 minutes from Kansas City and 1 hour from the airport. It is close to shopping, dining, Clinton Lake, and outdoor activities and sports fields. I will be happy to suggest local restaurants, sights to see, and offer directions. Enjoy the vibrancy and uniqueness of Lawrence, but then retire to the quiet of the countryside at the end of the day.

I'm an educator who loves travel, animals, music, other cultures, and being kind to the environment. I have traveled around the world and now look forward to welcoming people to my home to share travel stories. I was born in Lawrence, lived in California and abroad as an adult, and have returned here in the past decade.

Some of my favorite things are good food, a nice glass of wine over conversation and laughter, coffee, friendships, travel, animals, and gardening. I have been to 25 countries and hope to travel to many more!

My favorite quote is "You cannot discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore."
