Our bunkbarn sleeps 10 in a comfortable selection of handmade bunks and single beds in a communal sleeping area. Guests have access to kitchen and bathroom facilities, free wifi and outside patio space.

The space
The Boat Shed is converted from an old fishing warehouse. Accommodation consists of 3 bunk beds and 4 single beds.
Its very quiet in Quay Street, but very close to some great pubs & restaurants, the beach is about a minute away and the harbour 20 seconds, town centre about ten minutes walk....a great place to visit.

Guests get their own key and have access to all communal living areas, showers etc. Use of BBQ included.

We live on the next street so are around as needed. We meet guests on arrival and are happy to give info on local attractions and amenities. We often have BBQ's in the Spring and Autumn for guests to join in.

We are situated on one of the oldest streets in the old town of Scarborough. Its a hugely historic area and though the fishing industry that once thrived here is now somewhat diminished, there is still a real vibrancy about the area around the harbour. The seafront is thronging with pubs, from loud kareoke style to ambient wine bars and restaurants. Intermingled with cafes and amusement arcades. The beach is a stones throw away. And yet, when you step back onto Quay Street, it is surprisingly quiet and peaceful, (except for the dulcet tones of resident seagulls!!)

There are a number of bus routes that head along the seafront including an open top bus that flits between the North and South Bays. Taxis are ever present and don't take to long to arrive if not. The town centre is within walking distance as is the North Bay if you fancy a 20 minute jaunt.

Bedding is provided. Please bring your own towels.
Our Wifi is free for guests to use.

We can't promise you parking, but there is a public car park at the end of the street which is free from 6pm - 9am and costs £9.50 per day. Should be able to find on street parking, we can give you a parking scratch card to give you free all day parking.

Where you’ll be

Scarborough, United Kingdom

The Old Town of Scarborough is a lovely place to wander. Beneath the castle (built shortly after the Norman Conquest) and next to the harbour (a port since Viking times) the Boat Shed is an ideal base. Go for a walk on the beach, a stroll in to town, or get the open-top bus to the North Bay and visit the Sealife centre, or walk the Cleveland Way.
The Old Town, or Bottom End as locals call it, is full of history: The Normans, Roundheads and Victorians all left their mark on the town.
Scarborough was the first resort in the UK and a must visit destination for Victorians seeking a healthful vacation and taking of Spa Waters.
The harbour, now much quieter, was a busy herring port in times gone by. Now the harbour accommodates more yachts than fishing boats, but it's still a busy harbour. Visitors can take a speedboat ride round the bay, sail on a pirate ship or charter an angling boat for a few hours or day.

I grew up in the Old town of Scarborough and after leaving in my 20's, came back in my 30's so my kids could have a 'Tom Sawyer' childhood like mine. They've definitely enjoyed a free range upbringing and the latest addition to our family is already exploring the harbour with us.
We love the sea. I kayak and surf (badly but with enthusiasm), my husband Mike is a lifelong surfer and now a kite surf instructor. The older kids surf, skateboard, cycle and generally lark about the harbour and beach. We're very fond of wining and dining outside and do a mean braai and potjie. (Mike hailing from South Africa).
My other obsession is food and health. I'm a qualified Medical Herbalist and Nutritional Therapist, though currently taking a sabbatical in order chase a toddler around the beach!
