Sutton House hadn't been lived in for 50 years but is now fully restored as a holiday home. It's listed Grade II with parts dating back to 1650. There's character alongside contemporary fixtures and fittings.

At one end you'll find low ceilings, a large fireplace with wood burner and blue lias flagstones. At the other, the 'updated' Georgian front, with sash windows and shutters. The kitchen and bathroom are new, with high-quality fixtures throughout.

The space
People are always surprised when they enter the building, by how big it is. It looks like a little cottage but has many different rooms stretching back from the entrance hall.

The last family - the Suttons - lived in it back in the 60s. Since then, it's largely been abandoned until our complete renovation. We've been as green as we can - we've used no cement only lime, paints have all been minimal VOCs (such as Earthborn) or limewash and there's very little PVC in the building.

With the exception of a couple of rugs and the stair runner, all the floors are hard materials, which is thought to help asthma sufferers.

The room at the back still needs some work. For now, it's part of the garden, but we're open to ideas for what we could do with it!

Small dogs are welcome but we would ask that they are kept downstairs, please. Thank you.

Where you’ll be

Crewkerne , United Kingdom

The are many reasons to base your holiday in Crewkerne. The brilliant aqua centre, local food producers (especially Barley Sugar Bakehouse), great walks and the Jurassic Coast. If you've got children, they'll love Bincombe Beeches, and Ninesprings in Yeovil. If you like your art, try Hauser + Wirth in Bruton. Further afield, a day in Exeter is not enough! Indoors, there's Clip and Climb and the RA Museum (which is free!). Outdoors, a boat on the river and swan-watching. Or hop on the train to Exmouth when the sun shines.
