We are professionally run and fantastically well located guesthouse in the centre of Reykjavik 101, warm, cozy and welcoming. All Reykjavik’s main attractions, including her best restaurants, bars, cafes and shops are within a stone´s throw. We know the city, its language, culture and attractions intimately. We love it here. We love Airbnb too – we seem to attract incredibly friendly guests of all ages, be they single travelers, couples, families or groups of friends.

The space
The house is a traditional timber built Icelandic house, warm and snug throughout the year as heated with Iceland’s famous hydro-thermic hot water. This is a private upstairs room with a small double bed: it is ideal as a single room, but couples looking for a good deal would find it comfortable to share. it looks out into the branches of the golden rowan tree in the garden.
There are other private guest bedrooms in the house. All our guests have access to three shared bathrooms, two sitting rooms and a kitchen which can be used for heating up food and snacks but not for cooking full meals. We do not offer breakfast for the very good reasons that we are not licenced to serve food and there are so many excellent bakeries, restaurants and coffee houses so locally; these open very early.
Our house itself is quite well known, and is listed. It was a bicycle shop for fifty years, the first of these in Iceland, and as such it is much loved in Reykjavik, especially by people who bought their first bike here a generation ago.

Where you’ll be

Reykjavík, Iceland

Our neighbourhood is Downtown Reykjavik, the old quarter, and so all attractions are at your finger tips. We are between the city lake with its small park and the great church of Hallgrímskirka; in fact we´re a stone´s throw from each. The National Gallery is a 2 min walk and most of the other galleries in Reykjavik are not much further. The main shopping streets Skólavörðustígur and Laugavegur are around the corner. We have more restaurants within a 5 min radius than I can list (see our Guidebook) and I will happily recommend some and book for you in advance.

I am a half-Icelandic half-English opera singer. I live with my family here downtown. We love Iceland. I grew up in Njálsgata street in my grandparents' house which is very nearby, so I am a local, and a native speaker. Many of my cousins, aunts and uncles still live in the old town. I love my hometown and am thrilled at how Reykjavik has changed from the sleepy old fishing town of my childhood to the cosmopolitan and amazingly popular travel destination it is now. We are lucky to have a wonderful friend (also a singer) who helps us manage the Old Bicycle Shop. She is called Maria and it may be she who greets you when you arrive.
