Leave the world behind in this one roomed cosy cabin nestled in 5 hectares of native bush. A private outdoor camp kitchen, with firebath and composting toilet will make you feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle. Inside the cabin is an electric jug, toaster, fridge and comfortable queen bed with cotton sheets. The private deck looks out over Kahurangi national park. Golden Bay is an outdoor adventure playground surrounded by two National Parks, pristine beaches & native bush.

The space
This one-roomed cabin has a comfortable queen bed and private sunny deck in a peaceful and tranquil setting amongst native harekeke, kanuka and nikau bush with an outlook onto Kahurangi National Park.

Your room comes equipped with a toaster, tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. Outside is a camp kitchen with a sink, gas burner and a private fire bath and composting toilet. (note: If there is a total fire ban in place you will not be able to use the fire bath. This can happen in summer when it is very dry around Feb/March). Continental breakfast (muesli, yoghurt, fruit, toast, jam) and hot drinks are provided in your room if you require it (please let me know). It is a short walk to a shared bathroom in our house with flush toilet and shower if you prefer. There is no public transport in Golden Bay so you need your own car, parking is onsite. This 3 hectare property has been a private family home for the last 40 years and is a quirky home to a writer and an artist. It features a QE2 covenanted swamp with board walk and loop track, with extensive gardens taking up much of the rest. Situated eight kilometres before Collingwood on the main Takaka – Collingwood Highway and 1.6km past the Mussel Inn, it is centrally located to explore all that Golden Bay has to offer from Farewell Spit and the wild West Coast beaches to the Abel Tasman National Park in the east.

Where you’ll be

Parapara, Tasman, New Zealand

We are 1 km from the beach, and 1.6 km from the Mussel Inn. Takaka township is 18km away with banks, post office, shops, supermarket, cafes and craft shops. Collingwood is 8 km away with a small superette, a pub, cafe and post office. Farewell Spit is half an hour's drive away. We do not recommend one night stays in Golden Bay. It is a very long and winding road to get here and not much to see from the car, all the best spots are off the beaten track.

We have been living here on our family land for over 30 years. We live on a 5 hectare lifestyle block with a productive vege garden and chickens and turkeys. Our family lives next door with four grandchildren and step grandkids. Gerard is a free lance writer and some of his work involves travel journalism so in the last few years we have been as an administrator at the local Community Mental Health clinic. When she is at home she works in her garden and writes a blog about the seasonal food she grows and cooks.
